The salary range for this position is:
-Recruitment range: $69,052 - $76,129 starting salarydetermined by the PEA Collective Agreement.
- Performance range: $89,791salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases.
Job Summary
Mandate:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Research Finance (ADRF), the Research Finances Officer (RFO) plays a role in the day-to-day coordination and efficient processing of both externally and internally funded research grants. The RFO supports faculty throughout the lifecycle of research grants, in compliance with both UVic and the funding agency policies and procedures and provides guidance on funder terms and conditions. The RFO maintains positive working relationships with a multitude of internal and external partners.
Objectives:
- Provides post-award support financial administration, including account set-up and compliance with regulatory approvals.
- Function as a key point of contact for researchers, providing professional advice on Post-Award financial and administrative matters.
- Contribute to the effectiveness and continuity of the Research Finance team through collaboration, knowledge sharing, training and informal mentorship
- Develops and maintains process documentation, forms and reference materials for use in training and for website.
Job Requirements
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 3 years of relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. A degree in business, finance or accounting and experience in a research environment at a higher education, institutional setting or grant funding agency is considered an asset.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:
- Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive and respectful working and learning environment.
- Demonstrated experience in business and/or financial administration including accounting transaction processing, financial report preparation, grant/award administration, and performing reconciliations.
- Experience with financial analysis and statements preparation.
- Organized, detail-oriented with strong administrative skills.
- Advanced proficiency with Excel spreadsheets to create and maintain complex reports and spreadsheets with ability to accurately manipulate data.
- Excellent critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrates sound judgement, making timely, well-reasoned decisions with incomplete information, balancing risk and impact and escalating appropriately when needed.
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and tailor communication style for different audiences and situations.
- Experience in maintaining confidential and sensitive information.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring team members.
- Ability to interpret and administer policies and procedures to ensure compliance with granting agency programs and policies and university policies and procedures.
- Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships.
- Initiative-taking with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to prioritize, delegate, and manage time and tasks with attention to detail.
- Proficiency with computer applications (i.e., MS-Office Suite, Adobe Create Suite, content management systems, financial/accounting systems.).
- An understanding of UVic research/university policies, procedures, systems, and budgets is considered an asset. For example, university systems such as ViewCat, FAST Finance, Journal Voucher, WebReq, Chrome River, Team Dynamix and RAIS.
