Qualifications

MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING

  • Applicants must be a regulated health professional and eligible to practice in Manitoba (PT, OT, or RT preferred).

EXPERIENCE:

The successful candidate must:

  • Have a minimum of 3 years of clinical/fieldwork educator experience.
  • Have experience in leadership and interprofessional collaboration.
  • Have familiarity with culturally safe, trauma informed and inclusive care practices.
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate relationship development building abilities.
  • Have an understanding of community development principles, health equity, and the social determinants of health.

It is preferred that the candidate have experience with:

  • Successfully utilizing a variety of teaching and learning methods.

  • Using a variety of clinical/fieldwork education models.

  • Mentoring and coaching students and/or colleagues.

  • Program development.

  • Experience working with diverse populations, including indigenous communities, newcomers, individuals experiencing houselessness, and other marginalized or underserved groups.

  • Strong project management and program delivery skills, including the ability to manage timelines, coordinate multiple priorities, and ensure effective implementation of community-based initiatives preferred.

  • One year of directly related experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suites at an intermediate level required.

  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficiency using MS Office Suite is required.
  • Excellent communication, professionalism, organizational and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with staff, students and the public, ability to understand student problems, is required.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction is required. Must be highly organized and motivated.
  • Must be able to work well as a team member.
  • Must be able to establish effective rapport with team members, students, staff, clients, respond appropriately and communicate information effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently is required. High level of attention to detail and analytical thinking is required.

  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • A general knowledge of University of Manitoba, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences and College of Rehabilitation Sciences policies, regulation, programs and procedures is preferred.

Key responsibilities

Duties related to Clinic Management**:**

  • Collaborate with Clinic Office Assistant, Clinical Preceptors, Business Analyst, CoRS Department Heads, fieldwork coordinators, academic coordinators for clinical education, OIPC.
  • Establish criteria for referral and processes for managing referrals.
  • Screen client referrals to ensure appropriateness for student learning (based on student programs available and academic level.
  • Ensure common core competencies in social justice, anti-racism, anti-ableism and anti-oppressive practices are embedded in our client selection procedures.
  • Assign patient caseloads to students in collaboration with Clinical Preceptors. Use clinical reasoning to ensure students meet learning goals related to patient diagnoses, functional ability level, and complexity.
  • Ensure all clinic operations are in compliance with PHIA and FIPPA guidelines, as well as the University of Manitoba Privacy Policies.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community members/clinical sites that are referral sources for the clinics.
  • Lead hiring processes for required clinicians (PT/OT/RT/Rehab Assistants) to staff the clinics.
  • Coordinate and provide onboarding to the Clinic Office Assistant and Clinical Instructors/Educators.
  • Develop and implement program evaluations to ensure continuous quality improvements.
  • Responsible for safe keeping and destroying of client files in accordance with legal requirements as set out by regulatory bodies of all programs involved in the clinics, for example The Physiotherapists Act and the Regulated Health Professions Act, etc. and The University of Manitoba Common Records Authority Schedule.
  • Chair clinic coordination meetings with Clinic Office Admin and Department Heads, Clinical/Fieldwork Coordinators, preceptors in preparation for each clinic.
  • Collaborate with the Clinic Office Assistant to manage events associated with clinic operations.
  • Participate in selecting new and upgrading equipment.
  • Monitor growth of the clinic and advocate for changes in supports (staffing, equipment, resources etc.
  • Collaborate with the clinic office assistant to maintain clinic equipment for functionality and coordinate maintenance as required.
  • Liaise with leadership at Riverview Health Centre for facility, space and location management items.
  • Lead the process and timeline for advertising and recruiting clinic participants/patients/clients.
  • Develop and implement clinical policies and procedures for the clinic, ensuring adherence at all times.
  • Perform performance reviews for SLIC staff (admin, preceptors, rehab assistant).

Duties related to Interprofessional Collaboration & Education**:**

  • Coordinate interprofessional learning opportunities that align with the Canadian Interprofessional Health Collaborative (CIHC) competencies for advancing collaboration.

  • Collaborating with preceptors from all programs, coordinate selection of clients to meet student learning needs related to interprofessional collaboration.

  • Support innovation and maintenance of innovative interprofessional learning opportunities (e.g. Sharing Circles, student led professional development).

  • Work with CoRS clinical programs to meet needs of clinical education of students related to collaboration.

  • Coordinate Interprofessional student schedules in collaboration with Clinical Instructors/Educators and clinic preceptors across disciplines. – this involves coordinating patient schedules in a timely manner when clinical schedules are being developed, student schedules, space and equipment needs.

  • Attend meetings of the CoRS IPE Committee.

  • Collaborate with programs not yet represented at SLIC to engage in an authentic and meaningful way to meet student clinical education needs.

  • Ensure that SLIC is aligned with the Rady strategic plan related to

    • Empowering learners – Interprofessional education:
      • Expand sustainable and cohesive interprofessional education and clinical opportunities.
      • Advance distributive models of education reaching rural, northern and remote communities.
      • Focus on educational excellence in all core programs, meeting the needs of the provincial health workforce.
  • Create, implement, and explicitly evaluate learning opportunities for students to develop leadership skills.

  • Lead orientation and onboarding for all student.

Duties related to supporting preceptors**:**

  • Provide coverage for clinical supervision in case of sick calls, short term absences as scope of practice allows.
  • Provide onboarding to Clinical Instructors/Educators.

Duties related to Innovation and Clinic Development**:**

  • Develop and maintain relationships with Clinical Education and Fieldwork Coordinators in RFHS programs to support development of new clinics and maintain and nurture current clinics.
  • Develop relationships with the clinical community to generate patient referrals.
  • Participate in innovation initiatives to improve clinic procedures (e.g. implementation of electronic clinic management software and electronic charting system). Collaborate with the clinic office assistant, department heads, faculty members, clinic preceptors, develop reliable engaged medical partnership.
  • Develop innovations in how SLIC can provide learning opportunities that prepare students to provide healthcare for all Manitobans (telehealth, hybrid programs, satellite clinics).
  • Provide learning opportunities for students to actively participate in integrating core competencies in social justice, anti-racism, anti-ableism and anti-oppressive practices to ensure a safe learning environment for students and a safe clinic for the client they serve.
  • Support the development of explicitly supporting student leadership skills.
  • Collaborate with clinic office assistant to Develop a database/system to track clinic function and reach.
  • Explore space and expansion locations.
  • Expanding scope of clinic to meet educational needs of RFHS learners.
  • Innovate models of care (e.g. consider satellite clinics, delivery of care e.g. telehealth) to provide learning opportunities to prepare students for providing service to all Manitobans.
  • Implement education and care delivery innovations e.g. EMR, workshops.
  • Build relationships with other university programs to support year-round expansion when CoRS/RFHS students aren’t on placement.
  • May be required to perform related duties not exceeding skills and capabilities as required.
