About the role

As a Senior Industrial Engineer at Boston Dynamics, you will spearhead the creation and continuous improvement of production concepts and layouts. This includes but is not limited to line design, facility layout, large-scale installed production equipment and automation, as well as capacity and labor cost modeling. As part of the Production Technology and Industrial Engineering team, every day you will work closely with cross-functional teams to lead initiatives to improve production processes, reduce waste, and increase overall efficiency. You will be a self-starter who can maintain focus on the big picture while managing the huge number of small details to drive consensus on a day-to-day basis and foster effective collaboration. To thrive in this role, you must have experience in and be excited by fast-paced New Product Introduction environments and be highly motivated to drive changes and quality at all costs. If you are looking to work amongst colleagues who are collaborative, mission-driven, values-focused, and looking to have a positive impact on the world of robotics, come and join us!

Boston Dynamics is a world leader in mobile robots, tackling some of the toughest robotics challenges. For years, our awe-inspiring viral videos on YouTube have shown the world what remarkably capable robots can do. Now, we are quickly becoming a recognized leader in automation solutions for industrial applications, logistics, and warehouses.

Day-to-day Activities

  • Lead cross-functional projects from concept through execution, ensuring clear milestones, stakeholder alignment, risk assessments, and on-time delivery.
  • Partner with production, quality, test, and manufacturing engineering teams to improve efficiency, product quality, and manufacturing scalability.
  • Design and implement production concepts, including corresponding factory layouts and workcenter-level workflows, tailored to the needs of our scaling production operations through cross-functional teamwork.
  • Develop and maintain capacity models to predict production output, identify bottlenecks, and derive solutions.
  • Analyze and improve material and information flow, takt time, line balancing, and assembly line or workstation layout to maximize efficiency.
  • Drive standard work creation, time studies, and ergonomics evaluation using industrial engineering methods (e.g., MODAPTS, MTM).
  • Identify automation opportunities (e.g., cobots, vision systems, AGVs) and lead business case development and execution.
  • Support the rollout and continuous improvement of our MES system.
  • Establish KPIs for production performance (OEE, throughput, yield), develop performance dashboards, and lead root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Lead Lean initiatives, including Gemba walks, Kaizen events, and value stream mapping, and support 6S and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Develop plant competency in a wide range of Industrial Engineering methods and Lean tools to enhance overall safety, quality, productivity, and profitability.

Desired Skills

  • BS or higher in an engineering technical field (Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, Physics, etc.) or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a product manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial or manufacturing engineering, preferably in robotics, aerospace, or complex electromechanical systems.
  • Proven track record in implementing efficient production systems and leading cross-functional projects.
  • Ability to work in an ambiguous environment with rapid development cycles while prioritizing and managing multiple responsibilities.
  • Hands-on experience with MES and ERP systems (preferably Tulip and Rootstock) in a production environment.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, including use of tools like Jira, Smartsheet, or MS Project.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills; ability to influence across functions and levels.

Nice To Have

  • Hands-on experience with early-stage products, particularly in mobile robots.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification.
  • Familiarity with automation and MES integration to scale production.

We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. However, we are not able to sponsor visas for this position.
