About the role
The Overnight Winter Sidewalk Patrol is responsible to perform routine inspections of the municipality’s sidewalks, trails, stairs, parking lots and observe both weather and surface conditions in the field and electronically to determine if a winter event response is required.
Job Requirements

Practical working knowledge of Municipal infrastructure operations. Previous experience as a Roads/Parks Operator with winter maintenance sidewalk experience an asset.

Traffic control and Book 7 training required. Knowledge of the Ontario Highway Traffic Act and defensive driving techniques in order to safely operate Town equipment and vehicles.

Ability to operate a winter sidewalk equipment such as articulating tractors, farm style tractors, truck with salt spreader, small truck and front plough an asset.

Good problem-solving, record-keeping, and analytical skills.

Sound decision-making abilities in order to make decisions concerning weather and road-related conditions.

Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.

Working knowledge of the Minimum Maintenance Standards

Good communication and collaboration skills with ability to deal effectively and courteously with staff and general public.

Availability and ability to work overnight shifts starting between 8-10pm to 8:00 a.m. rotating with others throughout the seven days of the week or as designated by Parks Supervisor starting approximately from November 1 to April 1.

Ability to work in unfavourable working conditions.

Practical working knowledge of health and safety regulations, WHMIS, and procedures to deal with roads maintenance observations and winter patrol.

Class “G” Driver’s Licence required in good standing and a clean driver's abstract.
