Responsible for ensuring the safety, enjoyment, and positive experience of all participants during public skating sessions at municipal arenas. This includes monitoring ice surface activity, enforcing facility rules, assisting skaters, and responding to incidents or emergencies as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:

Possess a strong skating ability.

Required to supply personal skates and CSA approved skating helmet (all in good working condition).

Ability to communicate (both oral and written) effectively and respectfully with the public.

Possess a current Standard First Aid and C.P.R. Level C Certificate prior to commencement of the season;

Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC), deemed as satisfactory by the Town

Flexibility to work days, evenings and weekends.

Primary Function:
Responsible for ensuring the safety, enjoyment, and positive experience of all participants during public skating sessions at municipal arenas. This includes monitoring ice surface activity, enforcing facility rules, assisting skaters, and responding to incidents or emergencies as needed.
Responsibilities:

Patrol the ice during public skating sessions to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
-
Monitor skater behaviour and enforce municipal arena rules and safety regulations (e.g., speed skating, horseplay, improper equipment).
-
Maintain a visible presence to deter inappropriate conduct and assist with rule compliance.
-
Greet patrons in a courteous and professional manner, demonstrating a high level of customer service.
-
Answer questions and provide information about skating schedules, arena rules, and programming.
-
Respond to general inquiries and manage participant needs during sessions.
-
Address conflicts or disputes between patrons with professionalism and tact; escalate to supervisors or designate when necessary.
-
Administer basic first aid when required and respond appropriately to injuries or emergencies.
-
Accurately document all incidents and communicate with supervisory or emergency personnel as needed.
-
Set up and remove ice-side equipment such as pylons, signage, and markers before and after sessions.
-
Inspect any town provided skating equipment (i.e. sledge hockey equipment) and complete the required safety inspections prior to and after each use.

Ensure all patrons have appropriate safety equipment (e.g., skates, helmets if required).
-
Monitor and report facility issues or hazards (e.g., debris on the ice, broken boards) to arena staff immediately.
-
Take attendance and maintain accurate records of participation and incidents.
-
Processes all point of sale purchases, handles cash, credit and debit transactions in an accurate manner and balances daily sales to align with computer reports.
-
Follows all specified cash handling procedures including float reporting, cash reconciliation, and cash depositing.
-
Complete end-of-shift reports and communicate observations to supervisors or designate.
-
Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
-
Participate actively in the Town's Health and Safety Program and report any concerns or hazards promptly.

- Effective conflict resolution, problem solving and critical thinking skills;
- Must be available to work flexible hours including daytime, evenings, weekends and holidays;
- Possess a current Standard First Aid and C.P.R. Level C Certificate prior to commencement of the season;
- Must provide a current (within the past 6 months) Police Vulnerable Sector Screen to verify suitability for employment;
