Calgary’s science centre is a pioneer in science entertainment and programming, with roots dating back to 1967. Home to one of Western Canada’s largest dome theatre, the Digital Immersion Gallery, VR experiences, and innovative spaces like Steven’s Lab, where interactive experiments unfold before your eyes. From the robot-dog Flint to Canada’s first robot-coa5ter, R05iE, and a 15-acre park surrounding the science of the developing brain, Spark is a hub for creative encounters

Position Overview

Spark is currently recruiting for a Coordinator, Sale & Events. This is an hourly position that may require up to 37.5 hours per week. This role reports directly to the Manager, Sales & Events, and is responsible for the sales and delivery of impactful events. The ideal candidate has experience in producing diverse types of events from conception to execution, is excellent at managing relationships, closing sales, troubleshooting, has an eye for detail, and is well organized. Position is in-person and flexibility for scheduling is required given the nature of the role.

Key Responsibilities

· Manage full-cycle of events, from acting as first point of contact for client inquiries, to logistics, administration, and post-event follow-up, ensuring detailed and swift processes throughout.

· Responsible for supporting departmental sales efforts and client retention in order to achieve budgeted sales targets.

· Ensure proper account management across platforms, to ensure documentation reflects stakeholders and scope for each project.

· Coordinate Spark assets and setting up of spaces with proper equipment, to execute in-person or hybrid events, including internally produced events.

· Support safety initiatives by identifying risk, planning responsible events, and communicating with guests while in the venue.

· Build strong relationships with clients, partners, vendors, and internal departments, ensuring Spark policies and procedures are communicated and maintained throughout the event cycle.

· Support marketing initiatives, including lead generation, and assist with engagement for key stakeholders.

· Ensure personal and team activities are aligned with business and strategic goals of Spark as a whole.

· Model high performance, flexibility and kindness in a rapidly changing growth environment.

· Ability to work evening and weekends as needed based on the event schedule

· Other duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications & Knowledge

· A minimum of 1 years of experience in sales and event management preferred.

· A solid understanding of guest experience, project management, database management, administration, accounting principles, marketing and communications.

· Ability to problem-solve, manage conflict, and prioritize tasks.

· Excellent time management and organizational skills.

· Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite and working knowledge of Caterease or EventTemple and Galaxy is preferred.

· Strong ethics and ability to manage confidential data.

· A proven track record of adding value to an organization’s culture and initiatives.

· A positive attitude!

· Desire to work on a high performing team with a continuous upgrading culture to achieve high impact results. Fluidity and a desire to work hard and grow are essential.

· A high degree of creativity with the ability to leave your ego at the door.

· Ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time, move furnishings and equipment with the capability of moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 lbs.
