JOB LOCATION
This is an ON-SITE position located in Staples, Ontario
COMPENSATION
$20.43 - $34.86 / hour, Non-Exempt

ABOUT THE ROLE
Participates in all activities for the implementation of specific R&D trials. Trials can range from cultivar selection, recipe generation, process optimization to pre-commercial testing before crops are put into production. Position will assist with trial layout, data collection, summarization and presentation to key stakeholders. Assist other Associates by helping to execute protocols, including actions to maintain plant health, collecting phenotypic and environmental data.
WHAT YOU WILL DO

- Actively participate in data collection activities including summarizations of key variables & timely reporting.

- Monitor key plant and environmental variables to ensure success of trials.

- Ensure activities are accomplished on time including pruning, pollinations, fertilizations and pest control activities.

- Assist with all growing activities as appropriate including seeding, transplanting, irrigating, pruning, pest control, pollinating and harvesting.

- Ensure proper hygiene and safety protocols are followed at all times.

- Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS and EXPERIENCE YOU WILL NEED
- Minimum of 2 years' experience growing vegetable crops in a greenhouse environment.
- Ability to accurately record data and work with database type programs.
- Ability to work in an environment that can be hot and humid for extended periods of time.
- Must be detailed oriented.
- Ability to work weekends and holidays as needed.
- Excellent communication skills both written and spoken.
Bonus points if you have...
- Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture or a related discipline
- Preferred knowledge of greenhouse pests and their control.
- Have experience working in an R&D environment.
- Knowledge of growing vegetable crops in a hydroponic growing system
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
- Minimum educational requirement is high school degree
