Student Transportation Planner

One (1) Permanent Full-Time Position (35 hpw)

Exempt Level 4 $65, 295 - $83, 680 (per annum)

Position Summary:

Student

Transportation Services of York Region (STSYR) is the transportation consortium

for the York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB), and the York Region

District School Board (YRDSB). STSYR provides safe, effective and efficient

transportation service to more than 56,000 students and over 300 schools

covering more than 90,000 kilometers daily.

Under

the direction of the Area Operations Supervisor, Student Transportation, the

Student Transportation Planner provides professional and courteous customer

service for a variety of internal and external customers. In addition,

the Student Transportation Planner will be responsible for the planning and

administration of safe, efficient, and cost-effective transportation routes for

students within a designated area portfolio.

Major

Responsibilities:

  • Respond to telephone and/or

    email service requests and inquiries from parents, school administration,

    school bus contractors, and other stakeholders.

  • Plan and administer routes in

    accordance with the boards’ transportation policies as well as analyze bus

    routes and propose routing changes to improve efficiency and service

    levels.

  • Design new transportation

    routes as required, assess current conditions pertaining to existing

    routes, conduct site visits/area checks as needed, and recommend changes

    as required.

  • Maintain and update student,

    bus, and route data as required to ensure information is current and

    accurate.

  • Assist in gathering

    information, analyzing costs, and preparing reports as required.

Qualifications

and Experience:

  • Diploma or degree in a related

    fields such as urban planning, geography, transportation, logistics, or

    business administration.

  • 2-3 years of related experience

    in transportation, planning, or logistics.

  • Direct experience in the pupil

    transportation industry would be considered an asset.

  • Valid driver’s license and

    access to a reliable vehicle to travel within York Region.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent communication and

    customer service skills.

  • Working knowledge of GIS and/

    or school bus routing software.

  • Analytical and problem-solving

    skills.

  • Organizational and time

    management skills.

  • Ability to work effectively

    within a team environment.
