McKitrick and Connaught School

Connaught Elementary School and McKitrick Community School are seeking a compassionate, relationship-focused Social Worker to support students and families through a shared Family Support Model. This unique position is designed to strengthen the connection between home, school, and community by providing direct support to families experiencing challenges related to trauma, poverty, mental health concerns, complex life circumstances, and systemic barriers.

Purpose of the Position

The Family Support Social Worker will serve as a bridge between home, school, and community services. Through relationship-building, advocacy, counselling, and service coordination, the successful candidate will help families access supports that strengthen their ability to meet their children's social, emotional, behavioral, and educational need. This position is 50% a contract at 0.50 FTE with flexible day and evening hours effective the 2026/2027 school year.

Key Responsibilities

Build trusting and supportive relationships with families and caregivers. Provide direct family counselling, consultation, and short-term supportive interventions. Conduct family needs assessments and collaboratively develop support plans. Connect families with community resources and services, including mental health supports, housing services, food security programs, financial assistance, parenting supports, health services, and other community agencies. Facilitate referrals and assist families in navigating complex social, health, and community support systems. Coordinate appointments and connections with community agencies and service providers to address identified family needs. Advocate for families experiencing barriers to accessing services and supports. Work collaboratively with school staff to improve communication and strengthen partnerships between home and school. Participate in collaborative planning meetings focused on supporting students and families. Attend and support monthly Family Engagement Nights at the schools. Help identify and address barriers impacting student attendance, engagement, regulation, and learning. Promote a strengths-based, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive approach in all interactions. Maintain appropriate documentation, records, and case notes in accordance with professional standards and privacy legislation.

Qualifications

Experience facilitating family engagement initiatives and community partnerships. Experience providing family counselling and case management supports. Knowledge of local community resources and service networks. Experience working in school, community, or family-support settings.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to work independently and collaboratively across two school communities. Strong communication, collaboration, advocacy, and relationship-building skills. Understanding of the impacts of poverty, trauma, adverse childhood experiences, and systemic barriers on children and families. Knowledge of trauma-informed, strengths-based, and culturally responsive practices. Experience working with children, youth, and families. Eligible for registration with the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers (SASW). Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) or Master of Social Work (MSW).

Living Sky School Division encompasses a wide geographic area including the Battlefords, many communities, villages, First Nation communities, and Hutterite colonies. We are located in the heart of wheat and oil country.

Currently, 28 schools are located in 19 communities. Our schools include PreK-12, elementary, high schools, and alternate schools with a population of approximately 5,300 students.
