About the role
Duties & Responsibilities:

Outreach to newcomer families and youth to provide settlement services in schools

Conduct needs assessment to identify immediate, intermediate and long term settlement needs

Provide newcomer families and youth with settlement information and referrals to community services and educational resources based on their specific needs
-
Conduct information and orientation sessions for newcomer families to understand the school system, Canadian society, culture, laws and other aspects of life in Canada.

Maintains up to date client and service records and ensure the accuracy and confidentiality of client information
-
Support newcomer families in navigating the Ontario education system, understanding school policies, procedures, and programs, and encourage active participation in school and community life.

Provide newcomer families with information, orientation, and referrals to NCP programs and community services based on assessed needs.

Provide information to school staff with cultural sensitivities and the needs of newcomer families
-
Participate in professional development and training sessions to support continuous learning and program excellence.

Submit statistical and service reports to SWIS Program Manager as required
-
Enhance professional growth through attendance at professional development sessions, workshops and conferences.

Keep updated with changes of policies and resources
-
Attend meetings as required
-
Carry out any other duties as determined by SWIS Program Manager
Qualifications & Requirements

Post-secondary education in social work, psychology, settlement or related field
-
Minimum of one year experience in assisting newcomers with settlement issues
-
Extensive knowledge of immigration system, school system and community resources
-
Current knowledge of legislation, policies and practices affecting newcomers
About Newcomer Centre of Peel
Newcomer Centre of Peel (NCP) is a multi-service agency that assists the entire newcomer family in achieving settlement. With experience and expertise in adult language training; employability and business start-up and other settlement services including connecting to community services, such as childcare and healthcare, and programs for women, youth and seniors; NCP offers a dedication to quality of service and an understanding of each client's needs.
The impediments to successful integration cannot be dealt with in isolation. We have to ensure equality of access to opportunity to enable immigrants to connect to the enduring values and principles of what defines Canada. NCP, working with funding from Citizenship & Immigration Canada; hopes to foster loyalty towards Canada from our new immigrants and their families by providing a variety of holistic services in a friendly and familial atmosphere.
