FD, Meter & Distribution Device Analyst 1

Annual salary: $ 64,100.00 - 69,200.00

What you'll do

  • Performs the tasks identified in the Mesh & Meter Operations daily run book to monitor, operate and troubleshoot field

devices (such as smart meters for all three (3) distribution customer classes, feeder and transformer devices, complex

meters for major industrial classes, distribution automation devices and home area network devices) and their respective

field device communications (mesh network, distribution field device communication network, and transmission

measurement device communications) for residential, commercial, industrial and other devices. Ensures execution of daily

activities in accordance with the daily run book schedules and Standard Operating Procedures and in compliance with

service level agreements.

  • Conducts various activities to monitor, triage, provision, de-provision and configure multiple distribution field device

classes of unique characteristics and complexity (such as single/poly phase revenue meters, feeder and transformer meters

and associate sensors kits, distribution automation devices, home area network devices, connected grid routers and range

extenders). Liaises with various cross-functional technical groups to complete the activities.

  • Monitors configuration changes, device firmware downloads, device activation and device interrogation requests.

  • Initiates incident tickets for exceptions and failures such as field device hardware replacements, software upgrades and

field device triage for non-communicating meters and other devices. Implements prescribed fixes that are within the front-
line troubleshooting scope. Escalates to higher-level Analysts and other designated specialists in accordance with

established priorities by exception or failure type. Receives and responds to assigned tickets.

  • Identifies exceptions (such as time synchronization across devices and systems, failed meter identification, backhaul

status and event monitoring). Utilizes advanced technical tools to conduct activities within front-line troubleshooting scope

by analyzing meter and field device events/exceptions (such as remote troubleshooting field devices). Identifies potential

sources of exceptions and/or failures using established troubleshooting routines, documented workflows and previously

encountered trends.

  • Compiles and distributes standard and ad-hoc reports (on system performance, historical meter read data and statistics)

to internal management/colleagues and to other internal groups.

  • Provides a variety first line telephone support for metering partners, particularly for field crews by: verifying installations;

assisting with troubleshooting; recording and fulfilling service requests; documenting and raising incidents, and supporting

safety practices. Works with field resources during incident management to support work verification and troubleshooting

and to ensure equipment is de-energized.

  • Provides input into new or revised Standard Operating Procedures to assist in identifying potential conflicts with existing

operations routines. Identifies newly recurring patterns in meter data exceptions, non-communicating meters, field device

network devices and other components within each field device network encountered through troubleshooting activities.

Recommends revisions to higher-level Analysts.

  • Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job.

What you bring

  • Diploma in Business Administration, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or other relevant field; and two (2)

years of demonstrated work experience in analysis and troubleshooting.

  • Exposure to metering and field device network systems would be an asset. Requires completion of in-house and/or

vendor training on metering-specific tools within three (3) months of starting the job if the successful candidate does not

have experience with metering-specific tools.

  • Requires advanced skills in Excel or equivalent. Experience with database queries and generating reports using SQL and

other relational database programming languages and tools is an asset.

  • Requires completion of the Electrical Utility Fundamentals course or equivalent; or must be completed within one (1) year

of starting in the job.

  • This is a full-time temporary position for approximately 5 months.

  • As an Operational Team, there are needs to provide support after-hours, on the weekend and during holidays when a

planned change or unplanned issue such as a storm arises. This includes being on a callout list.
