About the role

Wonolo (Work Now Locally) is disrupting the $140BN temporary staffing industry. Founded in 2014, Wonolo's mission is to help people find consistent work. Through our two-sided tech marketplace, we connect hundreds of businesses in need of front-line workers with 2 million underemployed workers in local markets across the United States, within minutes. Wonolo has raised over $200M in funding which will continue to help us empower the in-demand workforce by democratizing access to flexible work, opportunities to learn new skills, a living wage, and comprehensive portable benefits and perks.

We’re looking for a Software Engineer to help shape the future of our AI agent platform. In this role, you’ll build and ship features that directly support our customers and workers, while maintaining the core AI infrastructure that powers our systems—including search, retrieval, and knowledge-sharing capabilities. You’ll work closely with Machine Learning Engineers to productionize state-of-the-art models, and collaborate cross-functionally to design agentic systems that are reliable, scalable, and consistent. Along the way, you’ll contribute to architectural decisions around LLM-driven workflows, uphold high standards for code quality and testing, and play a key role in delivering cutting-edge AI capabilities across the stack.

We welcome qualified candidates located anywhere in the Toronto, Ontario Area and are willing to work on a hybrid model.

What you'll do:

  • Build and ship features for our AI agents that support our customers and workers
  • Build and maintain core AI infrastructure, including search systems and retrieval algorithms
  • Collaborate with Machine Learning Engineers to productionize state-of-the-art models and techniques
  • Work across the stack to deliver AI capabilities that enhance knowledge sharing
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to build and refine agentic systems that are reliable and consistent
  • Ensure high standards for code quality, testing, and documentation
  • Contribute to architectural discussions around LLM-driven workflows and agentic systems

Who you are:

  • 5+ years of Software Engineer experience as a hands-on technical contributor in Python, Ruby or Go
  • Experience writing code that interacts with LLMs
  • Experience building deterministic, repeatable workflows
  • Proficient understanding of AI model capabilities and limitations
  • Experience in cross-collaborating across the organization to implement complex customer facing products
  • Knowledge of workflow engines a plus (Temporal preferred, AWS Step Functions, Airflow)
  • Strong understanding of reproducibility, debugging, and system reliability when working with LLMs.
  • Commitment to building agentic systems through code (not low-code/no-code solutions).

If you have read up to this point, we hope you are excited about this opportunity to work at Wonolo! Even if your experience does not check every bullet point, we still highly encourage you to apply. The best hires do not always check off every box of a job description.
