About the role

SaskEnergy is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Safety and Emergency Management to lead our corporate safety and emergency management programs. This role is crucial in ensuring the safety of our employees and compliance with all relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.

Position Details

  • Non-union. This position is permanent full time.

Key Accountabilities

  • Leadership and Strategy: Develop and implement long-term and annual safety plans aligned with corporate goals and legal requirements. Provide strategic direction and leadership in designing and delivering safety and emergency management programs.
  • Compliance and Best Practices: Ensure full compliance with legislation and regulatory requirements. Integrate industry best practices into operations and address gaps within the statutory framework.
  • Safety and Emergency Program Management: Oversee the development, delivery, and update of safety and emergency management programs. Lead the implementation and administration of corporate goals, objectives, and targets.
  • People Management: Manage and lead the Safety and Emergency Management team. Define roles, plan workgroup activities, and communicate strategic priorities. Monitor project progress and policy compliance.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Build strong relationships with business units, external associations, regulatory bodies, and government agencies. Collaborate with external consultants to resolve challenges and drive continual improvement.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 10 years of progressive experience in field operations, safety and/or emergency management.
  • Strong background in occupational health and safety in industrial or construction environments.
  • Proven success in developing and implementing safety/emergency management programs in matrix organizations.
  • Expert in interpreting regulations, including the Saskatchewan Employment Act and related safety regulations.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and attention to detail skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and collaborative leadership abilities.
  • Experience with committees, technical consulting, and serious incident investigations.
  • Knowledge of emergency management principles, especially in decentralized workplaces.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered. Additional Information

  • Travel, including overnight stays away from bid headquarters is required on occasion.
  • This job is safety sensitive, and as such, is subject to the provisions of the Drug and Alcohol Policy (Pre-Employment or Pre-Placement for Safety Sensitive Positions).
