Make your mark while you grow your career! The Reclamation Planning Team is a group of technically focused professionals responsible for managing a complex inventory of closure sites across western Canada. Working closely with Reclamation Operations, our Reclamation Planners apply advanced technical judgment, regulatory knowledge, and project management discipline to design defensible, cost ‑ effective reclamation and remediation programs.

This role is well ‑ suited to a technically strong, highly organized professional who can manage multiple workstreams, collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, and adapt to changing priorities. Key Accountabilities:

  • Prepare sites for field execution by developing clear, technically sound Scopes of Work, cost estimates, required permits, and third ‑ party agreements to support efficient implementation
  • Review, challenge, and validate technical reports prepared by third ‑ party professionals, ensuring outcomes and recommendations meet regulatory requirements and Canadian Natural’s technical standards
  • Collaborate with the team to maintain monthly forecasts, develop annual budgets and adjust Scopes of Work in response to overall program changes
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to track regulatory commitments and maintain compliance across all assigned sites
  • Analyze performance data and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and cost effectiveness while maintaining technical integrity
  • Proactively identify and implement innovative technical or process improvements that enhance program performance, quality, and consistency

What You Bring to the Role:

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in assessment, remediation, and reclamation of oil and gas sites in western Canada, including preparing and reviewing technical reports, applying regulatory guidelines, and evaluating remedial options
  • Member in good standing of a regulated professional organization in Alberta or British Columbia (e.g. environmental science, hydrogeology, engineering)
  • Strong working knowledge of provincial assessment, remediation, and reclamation regulations applicable to upstream oil and gas sites in Alberta or British Columbia
  • Demonstrated ability to select, apply, and technically defend site specific alternative closure strategies (examples include tools like the Subsoil Salinity Tool Tier 2C, Tier 2 Site Specific Risk Assessments, Risk Management Plans with Exposure Control, or Detailed Risk Assessment Protocols (1 and 20))
  • Able to critically review and provide clear technical direction on Phase 1 and Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessments, Remedial Action Plans, Remediation Reports, and Risk Management Plans
  • Highly organized and self ‑ directed, with a positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
