About the role
JOB SUMMARY Reporting to the Project Manager, the Project Assistant Trainee is responsible for assisting the Project Management Team with planning, preparing, and executing work plans and schedules on time and within project requirements. This position maintains a professional corporate image as a representative with clients and government agencies, and works closely with the Project Manager, Construction Manager, Project Coordinator and the Earthworks Contractor to coordinate projects to the satisfaction of the Client. This is a mentored learning position, and the successful trainee candidate will be provided with knowledge, support, guidance and opportunities to enhance their base skill sets in the discipline of general project management practices for future application. Mentorship will be provided by experienced Valley Tails Facility (VTF) site management staff, keeping in step with the learning style, existing and developing skill sets of the employee. Related duties of a Project Assistant Trainee may include the following: Daily review, and cost coding of daily contractor and subcontractor labour, equipment and material (LEM) charge sheets. Compilation, review and input of daily and weekly tracking metrics such as hauling numbers and fuel usage. Oversee material and inventory shipping and receiving. Quality control coordination to support the Contractor and Engineer. Prepare daily, weekly and monthly reports. Support other team members in tracking and reporting; ie. safety, training, manpower. Take meeting minutes and prepare for distribution. Update and distribute manpower schedule, flight manifests, and employee travel information. Hazardous waste management tracking, labelling, and inventory. Sieve testing, related documentation and reporting. Obtain exposure to survey methods and learn to perform drawing reviews. Other duties as assigned. TECHNICAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE Reading and writing in proper English, including written grammar and some technical interpretation skills. Preliminary knowledge of appropriate computer software, including the Microsoft Office suite of software. Exposure to technical documentation and/or contracts is beneficial. Ability to prepare written correspondence for project team review and editing. HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT Ensure compliance with Company, site/location specific, and Provincial/Territorial policies, procedures, and regulations. Set a personal example to promote a safe working environment and respect for the environment. Attend daily and weekly toolbox and safety meetings and other relevant safety training courses offered. Assess work hazards daily and ongoing throughout each day, and report unsafe conditions and observed hazards to the Project Manager or a member of the Company’s Safety Department. Immediately notify the Project Manager or a member of the Company’s Safety Department of all work-related incidents or accidents, whether small or significant, and whether you are directly involved or not. Refuse to perform unsafe work and do not operate equipment unless properly trained to do so. Report to work fit for duty and free of the effects of drugs, alcohol, and fatigue. Know site emergency and evacuation procedures, including the location of emergency equipment. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including winter survival gear as necessary. Read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for hazardous or potentially hazardous materials associated with your work. ACCOUNTABILITY Demonstrate an understanding of responsibilities and accept responsibility for results. Demonstrate a spirit of teamwork with other members of the work team. Appropriately seek advice and/or approval from Supervisor and/or Company management. Report to work when scheduled and be alert and diligent when performing work.
