LCBO Manager/ Buyer
About the role
Location: Food World Supermarket
Department: LCBO / Alcohol Retail
Reports To: Store Manager / Operations Manager
The LCBO Manager/ Buyer is responsible for the overall operation of the LCBO department within Food World Supermarket. This role ensures full compliance with LCBO regulations and AGCO requirements, delivers excellent customer service, manages inventory and staff, and drives sales while maintaining a safe and responsible retail environment.
Key Responsibilities
Buying & Product Management
- Plan and execute product purchases in compliance with LCBO purchasing programs and guidelines
- Select product assortment based on sales trends, customer demand, and seasonal needs
- Coordinate with LCBO representatives, vendors, and suppliers
- Manage new product listings, delistings, and seasonal or promotional items
Operations & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with LCBO, AGCO, and all applicable provincial laws and regulations
- Maintain and enforce age verification and responsible sale practices
- Ensure accurate documentation, reporting, and record-keeping as required by LCBO
- Conduct regular audits and inspections of the LCBO department
Staff Management & Training
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise LCBO department staff
- Ensure staff are Smart Serve certified and trained on LCBO policies
- Provide ongoing coaching, performance management, and disciplinary action when required
- Ensure proper staffing levels to meet business needs
Inventory & Merchandising
- Manage ordering, receiving, pricing, and inventory control in accordance with LCBO standards
- Monitor shrinkage, loss prevention, and product rotation
- Ensure proper merchandising, signage, and product presentation
- Coordinate returns, damaged goods, and seasonal resets
Customer Service & Sales
- Deliver exceptional customer service and product knowledge
- Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and escalations professionally
- Promote responsible consumption and assist customers with product selection
- Drive sales while maintaining compliance with all regulations
Financial & Administrative Duties
- Monitor sales, margins, and departmental performance
- Prepare reports and documentation required by LCBO and store management
- Manage cash handling, POS operations, and deposits
- Support budgeting and cost-control initiatives
Health, Safety & Security
- Maintain a safe, clean, and secure department environment
- Enforce theft prevention and security procedures
- Respond appropriately to incidents, refusals of sale, and emergencies
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in alcohol retail or supervisory/management role
- Smart Serve Certification (mandatory)
- Strong knowledge of LCBO policies, AGCO regulations, and responsible sale laws
- Proven leadership and people-management skills
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Experience with inventory management and POS systems
- Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift and move cases of product (up to 40 lbs)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Leadership ability with a hands-on management style
- Knowledge of POS systems and cash handling procedures
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
