SpeechDojo Volunteer Instructor/Team Member
About the role
Who are we? SpeechDojo Education Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to making public speaking education accessible and free for every student. We believe that public speaking is a key milestone in a student's academic and leadership development. Across our three teams - Classroom, Online, and Marketing - we work to achieve our goal of helping every student find their voice.
Our Teams
Classroom: The Classroom team is made up of instructors who deliver virtual public speaking lessons to elementary and junior high school students. Since SpeechDojo’s establishment in 2018, the Classroom team has taught in 100 classes in Alberta and has reached 2,432 students. Classroom instructors teach 2 elementary/junior high classes per year, one in the fall (September-January) and one in the winter semester (February-May). Classes happen weekly over Google Meet, last approximately 20-45 minutes, and take place during the school day. For this reason, our Classroom instructor applicants must ensure they have spare time during usual elementary/junior high school hours (8 AM-4 PM). The time commitment is approximately 3 hours per week, including preparation, delivery, and attending weekly meetings. As part of the Classroom team, instructors also have an active role in improving SpeechDojo’s curriculum and practices
Online: The Online team also offers virtual public speaking lessons, however they are aimed at older audiences (grades 7-12). Our team of web developers manage our three FREE online courses on Moodle, while our program coordinators teach public speaking lessons over Google Meet (lasting approximately 60 minutes, with 4-6 lessons total in an academic semester) built around our online course curriculum.
Marketing: The Marketing team upholds SpeechDojo's external and online presence across our social media presence (Instagram, Facebook), LinkedIn, newsletter, Google Ads, YouTube, and website. This team is ideal for anyone interested in content creation and marketing, or anyone looking to join a close-knit volunteer community! The marketing team also offers free training across numerous platforms, including Canva, Mailchimp, Wix, and Google Ads.
We are currently hiring across all three teams! Ideal applicants will be
Entering high school or university Passionate about public speaking or debate Passionate about teaching Able to make a volunteer commitment of approximately 3-4 hours per week Interested in making a long-term commitment to our incredible team!
