Position Description

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Registered Practical Nurse, under the Standards of Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario and the Department of Nursing, functions as a member of the nursing team to provide preventative, educational and/or supportive care, as defined within their scope of practice. Basic knowledge, decision making and communication techniques are employed in assessing, planning and implementing nursing care and lactation support services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered Practical Nursing Diploma
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Current certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
  • Perinatal Certificate from a recognized college program
  • Minimum of current 2 years working in a Women's & Infants' program
  • Healthcare provider CPR
  • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully, maintaining good interpersonal relationships.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
  • Ability to set own workload priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Excellent problem-solving and organization skills.
  • Experience with computers, data entry and patient information system.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides lactation and feeding support services to patients and families within the outpatient and inpatient settings of the Women's & Infants' program
  • Promotes and protects BFI practices
  • Consult and collaborate with physician as needed for plans of care
  • Develop and establish feeding plans with families
  • Ensure proper follow-up and support services are in place prior to patient leaving
  • Collects, labels and transports specimens
  • Participated in orientation of new hires and mentorship of students
  • Support front-line staff with knowledge and education on breastfeeding support practices

WAGE RATE:
Hourly: $35.12....$36.64....$38.16 (plus 14% in lieu)
