Job summary: The Manager, Agricultural Equipment & Shop Operations leads the maintenance, repair, and optimization of all agricultural machinery and shop functions across the organization. This role owns the strategic planning, coordination, and execution of the equipment readiness program—ensuring machinery is safe, reliable, and available to meet operational timelines. They build and lead a high-performance team, implement preventative maintenance systems, and collaborate with other departments to support peak seasonal demands. Success in this position requires strong technical knowledge, and excellent leadership skills. Role and Accountability:

Own the preventative maintenance program for all agricultural equipment, ensuring seasonal readiness and minimizing downtime.

Develop and adjust the maintenance schedule to align with operational demands (planting, spraying, harvest) and respond to unexpected breakdowns.

Actively participate in operational planning meetings to anticipate and fulfill equipment needs.

Lead, mentor, and coach mechanics, apprentices, and shop staff to build a skilled, accountable, and safety-focused team.

Conduct regular team check-ins, performance feedback, and skills training.

Foster a collaborative, solutions-driven environment where team members take pride in their work.

Supervise daily shop operations, ensuring tools, workspaces, and equipment are maintained to high safety and cleanliness standards.

Oversee troubleshooting and repairs—coordinating internal expertise or external service providers as needed.

Maintain accurate service logs, repair records, and compliance documentation.

Manage parts, fluids, tools, and consumables inventory, ensuring availability for scheduled work.

Coordinate with Procurement to restock critical items on time.

Contribute to capital and operating budget planning by identifying aging assets and forecasting future equipment needs.

Enforce all health and safety protocols in the shop and during equipment servicing.

Schedule and document safety inspections, ensuring all staff have up-to-date training.

Ensure a high standard of customer service is delivered to internal stakeholders by responding promptly to equipment issues and maintaining strong communication with operations teams.

Serve as a calming and stabilizing influence during times of operational disruption or crisis, helping the team stay focused, make clear decisions, and maintain productivity under pressure.

Identify and implement opportunities for equipment and shop optimization, including workflow improvements, workspace layout, tool organization, and technology upgrades to maximize efficiency and reduce operational friction.Develop and maintain SOPs, policies, and procedures for shop operations.

Promote continuous improvement in equipment reliability, maintenance efficiency, and team productivity.

Lead Level 10 meetings and individual check-ins with their direct reports, contributing to alignment and fostering continuous improvement. Participate in other Level 10 meetings to contribute to organizational effectiveness.

Monitor and coach team members, ensuring adherence to company values and performance standards.

Support cross-functional collaboration by ensuring information flows smoothly between departments.

Promote process improvements within their team and manage change effectively.

Utilize Microsoft To-Do (or similar) for task tracking and reminders, ensuring productivity and accountability.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Deep mechanical understanding of agricultural machinery and systems (hydraulic, electrical, diesel engines).

Strong planning and organizational skills, able to juggle priorities under pressure.

Proven ability to lead or mentor technicians or shop staff.

Knowledge of shop management best practices, including safety and inventory systems.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Education and Experience:
- 5+ years experience in agricultural or heavy equipment maintenance, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Post-secondary certification or journeyperson status in Agricultural Equipment Technician or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience managing shop or maintenance operations.
- Valid Ontario G Driver’s License.
Salary $80,000 annually
