About the role

Purpose. Performance. People. Joining CPP Investments means joining one of the world’s most admired and respected institutional investors to drive a single mandate: to deliver strong, sustainable returns for generations of Canadians. With a long-term horizon and global reach, we deploy capital at scale across public and private markets. Our size, stability, and disciplined investment philosophy allow us to pursue complex opportunities and build enduring partnerships worldwide. For our people, this means meaningful work with tangible impact, real opportunity, and collaboration with exceptional colleagues who value partnership and performance. Here, you’ll contribute to outcomes that matter alongside team members committed to excellence and shared success. Role Summary: The Total Fund Management (“TFM”) department is responsible for the successful implementation of the Fund’s investment framework. These activities are focused primarily on the Strategic Portfolio, our long term vision for the intended investment portfolio composition five or more years into the future. TFM also works on the Total Fund daily investment cycle, including all the processes, systems, and data needed to structure the investment portfolio in response to the ongoing flow of cash and exposures into and out of the Fund. TFM consists of the following: Portfolio Design, Research, and Engineering; Beta, Collateral & Liquidity Management; Dynamic Portfolio Management; Trading; and Strategy & Business Management. The Dynamic Portfolio Management (“DPM”) group is a centre of excellence for exposure management of the Fund, ensuring the Fund remains aligned with its intended exposures while delivering value-add. This is achieved by optimally managing asset and factor exposures as well as through tactical asset allocation, within a Total Portfolio Approach. Reporting to a Managing Director within the Dynamic Portfolio Management group, the Portfolio Manager will be a key lead for the portfolio management and design of the Tactical Positioning Strategy, with the aim of enhancing total fund returns and managing risk through temporary shifts in asset allocation away from established targets. Accountabilities & Qualifications: Accountabilities: Key lead for the portfolio management and design of fixed income strategies within TAA, including monitoring of portfolio exposures and risks, and rebalancing reviews/decisions. Design, develop and enhance value-adding signals for tactical asset allocation across multiple asset classes, including fixed income. Work collaboratively with the broader team on the research and implementation of systematic tactical signals and strategies. Support broader DPM activities, including the management of tactical positioning and strategic exposures. Apply investment judgement alongside model-driven insights in the management of exposures, including the assessment and implementation of adjustments and overrides within established governance frameworks. Contribute to the evolution of asset allocation frameworks by assessing interactions between strategic exposures and tactical positioning within a total portfolio context. Design portfolio modelling and monitoring frameworks to assess exposures, performance, and risk. Prepare and present analysis, recommendations, and updates to relevant internal committees and stakeholders on market developments and portfolio views. Contribute to cross-team initiatives and broader departmental projects as required. Qualifications: At least 8-10 years of relevant experience in portfolio management and systematic macro, with a focus on active strategies within a multi-asset or asset allocation context. Expertise across multiple asset classes, including fixed income, and a strong understanding of macro drivers of returns and cross-asset linkages are considered assets. Demonstrated experience independently developing systematic macro investment strategies end-to-end — including signal design, portfolio construction, and performance analysis — using macro, financial, and alternative datasets, and building scalable multi-asset modelling frameworks, with strong proficiency in Python (or comparable). Experience operating in a market-facing investment role, with a portfolio perspective that integrates objectives, risk trade-offs, cross-asset interactions, and systematic insights, is an asset. Experience applying empirical statistical and quantitative techniques to financial and macroeconomic data. Experience with AI-assisted coding tools and the ability to leverage them effectively to enhance modeling and portfolio analysis are assets. Graduate degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline preferred. Ability to think critically and creatively, and to exercise sound investment judgement. Strong collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with cross-functional stakeholders. Effective communication skills across a broad range of stakeholders. Self‑motivated, organised, flexible, and adaptable to changing priorities and new challenges. Successful candidates must consistently exemplify CPP Investments’ guiding principles of high performance, integrity, and partnership. You are motivated to contribute to something larger than yourself, approach complex challenges with rigor, and hold yourself to high standards in a collaborative, performance-driven environment. We provide colleagues with cutting-edge AI tools, dedicated learning time, and practical support to help them deliver with greater impact.
