Applied Research Technician II: Community Services Mapping and See the Signs (Summer 2026)
Position Summary
Project Title: Community Services Mapping and See the Signs / Red Flag Awareness
Red Deer Polytechnic has secured funding for a fully funded student researchers for Summer 2026 (May – August) to work on two projects. A summer research experience provides students with paid experiential learning opportunities at RDP, enhancing their interest and success in developing technical and professional skills.
Students will have the opportunity for skills development and networking through primary research activities, workshops, speaker series, career mentorship, and other events.
This summer student will support two applied research initiatives focused on community safety, prevention, and social innovation:Community Services MappingandSee the Signs / Red Flag Awareness. Both projects work closely with community partners to generate practical, evidence‑informed tools that improve awareness, coordination, and early intervention.
Position Responsibilities
Student Responsibilities:
TheCommunity Services Mappingproject involves identifying, documenting, and visualizing community‑based supports and referral pathways related to safety and wellbeing. The student will assist with background research, environmental scans, and data collection from public sources and community partners. They will help organize and synthesize information, support stakeholder engagement activities, and contribute to the development of community maps, summaries, and knowledge‑mobilization materials that highlight service connections and gaps.
TheSee the Signs / Red Flag Awarenessproject focuses on increasing understanding and practical use of Red Flag and Yellow Flag laws through co‑designed, culturally responsive tools. The student will support applied research activities including surveys, focus groups, and interviews under an ethics‑approved protocol. They will assist with data organization, transcription, and analysis, and help refine and test project tools and learning materials.
Skills Students Will Gain

Hands‑on experience in community‑engaged applied research, mixed‑methods data collection, partner collaboration, and translating research findings into real‑world outputs with tangible community impact.
Required Qualifications

Be currently registered at Red Deer Polytechnic; and
-
Be able to work in Canada

Available for work from May 4 – August 28, 2026 (~4 months)

Ability to work from 8:30am – 4:30pm from Monday to Friday

Proven strong work ethic, attendance record and productivity in an independent work environment demonstrated through previous employment, education, or volunteer experience.

Proven ability to work within a team and communicate positively supporting new and different ideas
-
Ability to complete work duties such as sitting, standing, and/ light physical effort over modest periods of time, with some opportunity for relief and task variety.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to review literature, write summaries, and present findings.

$20.30 per hour
Benefits and Compensation Information
An additional 15% of the hourly rate in lieu of vacation, statutory holidays and benefits
