The Financial Services department of the Corporate Services and Public Safety division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Accountant. Reporting to the Manager of Financial Services, this position offers 72 hours biweekly starting January 5, 2026, until October 7, 2026.

The Accountant's role is to administer and oversee the operation of the accounting system including transaction processing, accounting for general ledger accounts, month-end reconciliations and assistance with year-end reporting. The position also provides assistance to a diverse range of municipal departments, assisting with information requirements, providing financial analysis, advice, and ongoing training. The Accountant will also play a key role in system implementation projects.

Qualified candidates possess a grade 12 diploma with completion, or enrollment as a senior level student, of the CPA accounting program, and with 3-5 years of experience in a similar multi-unit, computerized environment. Qualified candidates demonstrate knowledge and experience with the methods, rules and regulations applicable to public sector accounting operations, budgets and statutory requirements; experience with ERP system management and configuration; possess strong computer and software proficiency; and demonstrate the proven ability to effectively prepare and analyze a variety of data, financial and statistical reports with the ability to effectively handle a high volume of transactions and prioritize work to meet weekly and monthly deadlines. Experience working in a local government setting with knowledge of municipal administration and experience with relevant legislation and municipal bylaws will be considered an asset.

The successful candidate demonstrates excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively prioritize work. Successful candidates work independently, and display leadership in the delivery of financial services. Additionally, the successful candidate demonstrates commitment to promoting a diverse and equitable workplace and will maintain effective working relationships with others while contributing to a positive team environment. The starting wage for this role is $40.77 per hour.

As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must provide a satisfactory BC Class 5 driver’s abstract and a satisfactory Police Information Check prior to beginning employment.
