Your Opportunity

An opportunity exists for a highly motivated, personable, and very organized Team Lead (TL) for our Indigenous Services (IS) team within our Environmental Services Business Centre. You will report directly to the Cultural and Social Sciences Senior Team Lead and will work closely with other leadership and team leads. As a Team Lead, you will form a key part of the Business Centre's leadership team and will help grow our business through ongoing recruitment, retention, and development of staff.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • People Leadership - Daily operational management of up to 15 Indigenous Services professionals
  • Communication of the organization’s operational expectations and execution of the strategic vision of the team
  • Resource planning and management of team by monitoring staff utilization and availability
  • Work with team members to align their professional challenges with their career plans and business goals
  • Coach and mentor your team for performance and career development
  • Conduct Goal Setting and Performance Review process for team members and work with Business Centre leadership to make sure training plans and performance targets are identified and met
  • Maintain a focus on recognition and morale building within the team and planning staff appreciation initiatives
  • Provide on-going performance evaluation and targeted constructive feedback to team and initiate performance management when needed
  • Collaborate with safety personnel and leadership to support mandatory training requirements of team members
  • Initiate and chair Indigenous Service team meetings
  • Attend regular Team Lead meetings with leadership and Human Resources
  • Contribute to compensation, leadership level, career level, and job category discussions
  • Lead or participate with recruiting and onboarding of new personnel through identifying potential candidates, reviewing resumes, and participating in the interview process
  • Leading by example to promote a positive and progressive team safety culture
  • Being an agent of change in the team and Business Centre
  • Technical Role - Participate in technical project work as part of the Indigenous Service team and achieve 65% utilization
  • Work with the team to drive new technical initiatives or service lines
  • Manage project tasks and deliverables within a cross-disciplinary team environment, working with project managers and other project team members in a collaborative and respectful manner while adhering to Stantec’s safety and quality standards and following Stantec’s project management processes
  • Communicate and liaise effectively with project stakeholders, including internal teams, clients, Indigenous groups, regulatory agencies and the public
  • Exercise independent judgement to analyze issues, interpret information and select methods and solutions to resolve problems generally within standard practice guidelines
  • Prepare and coordinate proposals and reports tailored to specific project requirements

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Experience in team leadership and managing projects
  • Experience in Indigenous community engagement and presenting to a variety of audiences including Indigenous and industry clients, regulatory authorities and technical teams
  • Experience in environmental impact assessments
  • Knowledge of Indigenous cultural, historical, and political context in Canada
  • Demonstrate good listening and problem-solving skills to assist in decision-making and provide expertise to clients and peers
  • Ability to work seamlessly with multidisciplinary project teams and execute projects collaboratively
  • Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Attention to detail and exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Periodic short-term, regional travel expectations
  • Must have a valid driver’s license as travel may be required in this position as project needs dictate
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree and/or diploma in a relevant discipline (Indigenous studies, anthropology, sociology, geography, archaeology and/or environmental sciences).

Relevant consulting experience is an asset, particularly in community-based research or environmental planning.

Industry-specific safety training certificates and cultural safety training are an asset.

Environmental, socioeconomics, or public health assessment experience is an asset.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
