About the role
The Hazmat Technician
is to perform the duties and responsibilities provided below in accordance to Ambipar’s standard operating procedures and performance objectives, while adhering to the applicable health and safety regulations, and professional codes of conduct.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Utilize all Health and Safety initiatives on emergency and non-emergency projects
-
Follows HSE compliance with applicable Federal, Provincial Acts, Codes and Regulations
-
Completes, updates and distributes health and safety related documentation as required regionally and specific to various business lines
-
Assist in developing and delivering required training programs to clients and internally at Ambipar.
-
Complete all paperwork and reports required for operational tasks
-
Perform equipment checks and testing on a scheduled basis
-
Perform maintenance on Ambipar vehicles and mechanical equipment as requested
-
Provides basic housekeeping of our building and our work areas
-
Attends scheduled training and leads training as assigned by Ambipar management
-
Completes required documentation in the management of waste and transportation of waste as per the Provincial and Federal regulations
-
Responsibilities as otherwise assigned by Operational/Regional Management, Support Emergency Response operations
and required to participate in an on-call schedule to cover 24/7/365
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
-
Post-secondary education in a related discipline preferred or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience
-
A college or University Diploma or Degree is considered an asset
-
Hazardous Materials Response experience (1 year or greater)
-
Previous experience in chemical handling, transferring, and waste management, etc.
-
Previous experience with assessment of industrial services and a keen understanding of working at heights, confined space, rescue, etc.
-
Comprehensive heavy construction experience and Industrial experience an asset
-
Rope Rescue Technician experience is an asset
-
NFPA 472 Hazardous Materials Technician Level or greater (Accredited)
-
Confined Space Entry/Rescue certification
-
Valid Driver's license
-
Tank Car/Tank Truck Specialist is an asset
-
Rope Rescue Technician is an asset
-
Construction Safety Officer (CSO) is an asset
-
Fabrication / Welding background is an asset
-
Mechanical skills are an asset
HEALTH, SAFETY, AND ENVIRONMENTAL (HSE) REQUIREMENTS
-
Reviewing and adhering to the company HSE policies and procedures as directed by the HSE Manager.
-
Complying with policy, rules, standards, procedures, and practices.
-
Correcting hazards as soon as they are observed.
-
Immediately reporting to supervisory personnel all incidents, injuries / illnesses, near misses and hazard ID’s.
-
Using equipment and tools (including rentals) as per manufacturer’s specifications and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
-
Knowing the location, type and operation of emergency equipment and being familiar with site-specific emergency procedures.
-
Refusing to perform work that poses an imminent danger and/or refusing to perform work they are not qualified to perform.

Participating in workplace inspections and monthly office safety inspections as directed by the HSE Manager.
