Job Summary
As a Site Maintenance Worker at the Abbotsford Mission Recycling Depot, you will be responsible for general maintenance tasks to ensure the site, facility, and equipment remain in good working condition. This role includes performing daily site inspections, addressing maintenance issues promptly, and supporting overall recycling depot operations. The position requires working in a noisy environment and in all weather conditions. Applicants should have the skills and qualifications to perform a variety of maintenance duties, including general “handyman” tasks.
Position Description
- Perform general “handyman” maintenance duties around the site, including grounds, landscaping, buildings, and equipment.
- Conduct daily inspections of the site, facility, and equipment to identify and address maintenance needs.
- Carry out minor repairs, preventative maintenance, and equipment upkeep.
- Assist with recycling depot operations, including cleaning, loading, and unloading areas in accordance with operational procedures.
- Maintain all standard areas, either by performing tasks personally or coordinating with vendors.
- Ensure all standard areas are maintained, either by performing the work personally or coordinating with vendors.
- Respond promptly to maintenance issues and coordinate with supervisors for larger repairs.
- Provide on-site litter control to maintain a clean and welcoming environment.
- Use hand tools, machinery, and other equipment safely and effectively to complete maintenance tasks.
- Recommend improvements to enhance facility operations, safety, and efficiency.
- Keep equipment and tools clean and organized to maximize effectiveness and lifespan.
- Follow all company policies and safety procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
- 1–2 years of experience as a Maintenance Worker or in general maintenance, facilities upkeep, or similar “handyman” roles.
- Technical expertise with hydraulics, pumps, motors, conveyors, shaft alignment, pulleys, belts, and bearings, with the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose issues. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Physical ability to lift, climb, and perform general maintenance tasks.
- Familiarity with equipment and tools used in site maintenance is an asset.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
