The Opportunity
The successful candidate will be responsible for the supervision of the field operations of the electrical
distribution system, which includes but is not limited to construction, maintenance, service, and project
management and coordination.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Provide leadership and efficient and effective supervision of operations personnel, contractors,
- and expenses that impact the Corporation including but not limited to the following: Project
- Supervision, Emergency Response, Subdivisions, Repairs and Restoration of Service, Overall
- System Reliability and Maintenance.
- Perform Supervisor duties related to occupational hazards, safety precautions, regulations and
- procedures that are applicable to the Construction and Maintenance of the distribution system.
- Ensure compliance with all Company and applicable regulatory rules, regulations, and policies.
- Facilitate the development of efficient, organized, and productive operational work plans (daily,
- weekly, monthly, etc.) that allocate resources effectively to achieve the desired objectives in a
- timely manner.
- Ensure safe and efficient operation of the Corporation’s electrical distribution system.
- Approve and issue all operational maps, switch orders (OTOs), utility work protection code
- (UWPC) and other operational documents and orders to ensure safety and reliability of workers
- and equipment, including acting as an active Controlling Authority agent.
- Responsible for performance coaching/appraisals and the recruitment, development, training,
- engagement and retention of team members to adequately staff the required work, including
- after hours.
- Foster positive employee relations through meetings, events, handling complaints, and
- employee recognition.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with employees at all levels of the Corporation,
- external contacts and the public.
- Develop and maintain safe work practices, standards, policies and procedures involving
- distribution operations.
- Responsible for organizing and leading regular safety meetings involving the field staff.
- Assist with ensuring all work orders are completed and the relevant paperwork filled correctly
- while meeting the demands of our customers and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in preparation of cost estimates and capital improvement requisitions for projects.
- Assist in vegetation management by inspecting sites and planning follow up work for line crew
- and tree contractors.
- Assist with processing of necessary paperwork for recoverable and non-recoverable jobs (i.e.
- invoices, police reports, photos, documentation, as-built drawings).
- Assist with the implementation of new or innovative technologies.
- Assist with planning and coordinating all internal and contracted work and perform routine
- inspections to ensure work meets or exceeds all set expectations and safety requirements.
- Assist with preparing budgets and job planning.
- Assist in resolving employee disputes and customer complaints in a timely manner.
- Perform on-call supervisory duties as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the Powerline Trade
- Minimum of 3 years experience Supervising Powerline crews as crew leaders or supervisors.
- Excellent knowledge of electrical distribution systems and applicable construction standards.
- Knowledge and understanding of the occupational hazards, safety precautions, regulations and
- procedures that is applicable to the area of work.
- Demonstrated experience with construction materials, safe work methods and practices.
- Must be familiar with relevant trade and regulatory policies and procedures, including legal and
- contractual requirements.
- Working knowledge of the Supervisory & Worker Responsibilities under the Occupational Health
- & Safety Act (Industrial & Construction Regulations), the IHSA Electrical Utility Safety Rules
- (EUSR), the Utility Work Protection Code (UWPC) and other relevant legislation or codes
- applicable to the Powerline Technician trade.
- 1 to 3 years of experience as a systems operator would be an asset;
- Operational knowledge of SCADA systems would be an asset;
- Excellent health and safety record
- Valid certification as a Powerline Technician.
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in a relevant electrical utility discipline
- Valid Ontario Class DZ driver’s license and possess an excellent driving record

InnPower, legally named InnPower Corporation, is derived from the hydro system that served the Village of Cookstown since 1917. The Village of Cookstown amalgamated with the Township of Innisfil in 1991, and later that year Council passed a by-law which expanded the hydro service area of the Commission, named The Hydro-Electric Commission of the Corporation of the Town of Innisfil, to the new municipal boundries of the Town of Innisfil. On July 1, 1993 when the expansion became effective, the Commission increased its number of customers from approximately 560 to over 11,200. Effective November 1st, 2000, Innisfil Hydro became a corporation, with a Board of Directors responsible to the shareholder, the Town of Innisfil.
