Job Description Rossland, British Columbia, has approximately 4,200 residents and is set in the alpine region between the Monashee and Selkirk Mountains. Locals enjoy year-round outdoor activities, including skiing, golfing, mountain biking, and hiking, with natural beauty close by. As an Accounting Clerk II, your primary duties will include conducting thorough data analysis and preparing detailed month-end reconciliations. You will be responsible for executing tasks associated with internal controls and actively contributing to the preparation of financial, audit, and government reporting. In addition, you will maintain comprehensive asset management records and provide valuable support to other members of the finance team. The role also involves assisting in the preparation of reports for Council and the public, as well as supporting the development and ongoing monitoring of the City’s budget. Ideal candidates value accuracy, innovation, and public service, demonstrated by their ability to:
- Reconcile complex financial statements with keen attention to detail;
- Apply strong knowledge of government operations and enthusiasm for the public sector;
- Incorporate sustainability into financial practices for long-term community benefit;
- Champion and implement automation to improve efficiency and transparency;
- Maintain balanced accounts with consistent accuracy;
- Expand skills in payroll, utility billing, non-financial reporting, and grant administration to support the finance team. Minimum Requirements: Enrollment in, or recent completion of, the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) Program. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed the core courses or are currently enrolled in the CPA Professional Education Program. This is a union position subject to the terms and conditions of the current Collective Agreement between the City and CUPE Local 2087. The starting salary (2025 rates) for the position is based on Pay Grade 7 during probation ($40.76 per hour) and Grade 8 ($43.06 per hour) thereafter.
