Position Title: Sexual Assault Support Centre (SASC) Assistant Manager, Support
Reports to: SASC Manager
Supervises: Support Workers and Support Supervisor
Status: Permanent, Full-time
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Evening and weekend work may be required)
Compensation: $70,000 - 80,000 annually with additional benefits package
The Alma Mater Society of UBC Vancouver (AMS) is a student-run, not-for-profit organization that represents over 56,000 UBC students as well as students at affiliated colleges. The AMS operates student services, student owned businesses, resource groups, and clubs with the purpose of improving the quality of the educational, social, and personal lives of the students of UBC Vancouver (www.ams.ubc.ca).
The AMS Sexual Assault Support Centre (SASC) is a service for all genders located at the UBC Vancouver campus. The SASC is committed to creating a safer campus community free from sexualized violence, which involves providing support services and violence prevention education on campus.
We're currently looking for an experienced individual for the position of the SASC Assistant Manager, Support. Working within an intersectional, anti-oppressive framework, the SASC Assistant Manager, Support is responsible for assisting the SASC Manager with the operations of the AMS SASC in the AMS Nest at UBC Vancouver, providing support for survivors of sexual assault, advocating for university support for those experiencing sexualized violence, and raising the profile of the issue of sexualized violence to the AMS membership and the UBC Community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
PROGRAM SUPERVISION
- Assists the manager in the implementation of services for the support and advocacy department
- Assists the manager with daily operations of the support and advocacy department
- Manage the Support Supervisor, with support from the SASC Manager
- Shapes the vision and direction of the SASC in conjunction with the SASC team, and AMS Senior Management
- Supervise and manage practicum students delivering support services
- Coordinates and supports the SASC team in providing subject matter expertise and advocacy on policies addressing sexualized violence on- and off-campus
- Supports the manager in identifying, assessing, and resolves operational issues
- Supports the manager in developing and maintaining office protocols and policies
- Supports the manager in developing, maintaining, and delivering training curriculum and materials for Support Workers
- Works collaboratively with AMS Student Executives, Student Services staff, permanent staff, and other student staff
- Performs and produces work that is consistent with the values of the SASC and the AMS of UBC Vancouver
- Manage and assist the Support Supervisor in supervision, performance management, employee discipline, and termination of Support Workers
- Manage hiring and recruitment processes, as well as the training and onboarding schedules for Support Workers
- Coordinate professional development of Support Workers
- Supports the manager in scheduling, facilitating support team meetings and other team meetings at the SASC
- Coordinates and supports outreach initiatives to community
- Other duties as assigned
SUPPORT SERVICE DELIVERY
- Supports a campus coordinated response to sexual assault and liaises with UBC and community-based services
- Oversees the support and advocacy branch of the SASC with the support of the SASC manager, and SASC support supervisor
- Support SASC manager in overseeing the provision of immediate and on-going support, crisis intervention, advocacy and accompaniment services to survivors of sexualized violence, their family members, friends and community
- Takes on immediate support of complex client cases escalated to leadership
- Creates and maintains appropriate resources and referrals for clients
- Supervises service-user case management and maintenance of client files and case notes
- Facilitates case consultation meetings and other client administration duties
- Maintains appropriate occupational health and safety procedures
- Engages in building community of practice to ensure the SASC support and advocacy department maintains collaboration with industry stakeholders
- Takes on on-call duties when necessary, willing to work a flexible schedule
- Conduct case management for support services, including reviewing case documentation, monitoring case needs and risks, and setting case approaches and strategy in collaboration with Support Supervisor
Qualifications and Experience:
- Relevant post-secondary education in the field of social services, and or a combination of training, education and experience
- A strong understanding and proven experience working with multidisciplinary teams providing trauma-informed care
- Specialized knowledge of sexual assault, including legal and medical systems and procedures
- Experience working in university settings is a strong asset
- Strong understanding of anti-oppression perspectives and approaches in relation to sexualized violence and abuse relationships for all persons. Experience working within a feminist and social justice oriented organization is a strong asset
- Experience in a supervisory role and experience overseeing both unionized and non-unionized staff and volunteers
- Experience liaising and collaborating with community partners, criminal justice system actors, hospitals, and community based organizations
- Experience working with diverse communities
- Previous experience/formal training providing direct and specialized support to survivors of sexualized violence including support group facilitation
- Well organized, flexible, self-motivated and able to work and make decisions independently and collaboratively
- Experience with community engagement and relationship building
- High level of comfort and proficiency in public speaking is an asset
- Experience speaking to media and acting as public representative is an asset
- Experience in curriculum development and facilitating workshops is an asset
- Experience in program development is an asset
- Experience working with volunteers is an asset
