Assembly Department Shift Lead is responsible for supporting daily production activities on the assembly floor while providing hands-on leadership to assembly associates. This role coordinates work assignments, ensures quality and safety standards are met, and acts as the first point of contact between the assembly team and supervision.

Work performed will support a business unit manufacturing a brand.

Essential Functions

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform TIG (GTAW), MIG (GMAW), and handheld laser welding on thin-gauge stainless steel components.
  • Execute accurate fit-up, tacking, alignment, and weld sequencing to minimize distortion.
  • Produce clean, consistent welds suitable for mirror-finish grinding and polishing with minimal rework.
  • Maintain stainless-only handling practices to prevent contamination.
  • Read and follow engineering drawings, weld symbols, job travelers, and specifications.
  • Conduct in-process quality checks and ensure welds meet cosmetic and structural standards.
  • Collaborate with finishing teams to optimize weld profiles for polishing efficiency.
  • Operate welding equipment, fixtures, purge systems, and basic measuring tools safely.
  • Maintain a clean, organized workstation and follow all safety and PPE requirements.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient in TIG, MIG and Laser welding.
  • Ability to read blueprints and weld symbols.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
  • Can read blueprints and follow instructions
  • Experience with cosmetic or mirror-finish stainless products.
  • WHMIS, CWB, forklift, or crane certifications.
  • Background in high-mix/low-volume fabrication.

Education and Experience

  • 2–5 years of welding experience (thin gauge preferred).
  • Experience with stainless steel
  • High school diploma or equivalent working experience
  • Welding certificate or trade school training (an asset)
