About the role
OPPORTUNITY
The Intern, Development, will be responsible for providing financial and other support on a wide range of development projects in multiple asset classes. They will assist with the development, interpretation, and implementation of financial models to evaluate and propose recommendations on investment, development, and redevelopment projects. This position will have exposure to multiple asset classes which could include land development, industrial, office, high rise condominium and residential rental projects.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with creating detailed financial models for single and multi-phase development projects including multi-family residential, retail, office, and hospitality property types.
- Obtain inputs and assumptions for a development proforma through market research, review of third-party reports, and collaboration with various teams across the organization including Construction, Leasing, and Operations.
- Assist with conducting financial analysis, preparing scenarios and sensitivity analysis to inform decision making and evaluate development options.
- Assist in the creation of presentations and memorandums to facilitate the project approvals process.
- Assist with reviewing financial planning and reporting of joint venture partners.
- Perform variance analyses and reconciliations.
- Assist required groups with completing the monthly cost-to-complete process for projects currently under development.
- Assist with preparing various project and portfolio reports to be used by internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist in general development project oversight and organization including, coordinating meetings, filing, liaising with development consultants.
- Other duties within the scope and purpose of the job, as requested by management.
Requirements
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- A strong interest in real estate and development.
- Pursuing an undergraduate degree with an emphasis on real estate, finance, urban planning or economics.
- Experience with financial modeling skills and an understanding of finance concepts and terminology is an asset.
- Results oriented with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities, maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, communicating effectively and contributing to a positive, growth-oriented work culture.
