We are looking for an Intern from May - August 2026for an existing vacancy on our Toronto-based Investment Analytics Engineering team . The IA Engineering Team manages a variety of investment analytics functions and provides investment insights to stakeholders for an investment management firm managing over $179 billion in global assets. Our offices currently operate on a hybrid model with a combination of in-office and remote working days throughout the week.
What You Will Do The IA Engineering Team exists at the intersection of financial analytics and programming/data science. The ideal candidate has a passion for both sides of the role, understands complex financial concepts, and can apply technology to find insights and implement solutions.
Responsibilities A substantial portion of IA Engineering work is unstructured ad-hoc problem solving and idea generation/implementation; the ideal candidate is self-motivated and is effective in both an independent and a collaborative setting. You will have the opportunity to work closely with multiple business partners including portfolio managers, middle/back-office teams, and information technology. Key responsibilities for this business role include:
- Assist in developing scalable investment analytics (e.g., performance, attribution, risk, exposure, modeling), including transforming data and preparing/building data visualizations and business intelligence outputs
- Support process and workflow improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce risk, including assisting with data engineering tasks that strengthen data pipelines
- Investigate ad-hoc issues as raised by stakeholders such as portfolio managers and performance analysts
What You Bring
- Education – Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Finance, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Interest in the Industry – Curiosity about the asset management industry and investment analytics. Prior exposure is a bonus but not required.
- Passion for Technology – Enjoy working with data and are eager to develop skills in extracting insights through technology. Familiarity with Python, R, SQL, or PowerBI is an asset.
- Foundational Data Skills – Building on the ability to understand, query, and analyze information from datasets, and you’re eager to grow your data science skill set through hands‑on experience.
- Problem Solver – Approach problems with an analytical mindset, enjoy identifying patterns, and are motivated to learn how to develop practical solutions.
- Collaborative – Work well with others, contribute positively to team discussions, and communicate clearly as you learn and ask questions.
- Growth & Improvement Mindset – Consistently look for ways to improve how things are done, willing to take a critical view of processes, and able to support multiple tasks or mini‑projects.
The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $60,000. The salary range provided reflects the base salary range for this position as required by legislation. Further questions may be directed to the HR team during the interview process.
