This role requires a strong combination of Mine and Construction mechanical knowledge, sales expertise, and strategic thinking to build relationships with key mining operators, engineers, and contractors.

The Business Development Manager is responsible for the growth of the Matrix mechanical division, and for increasing revenue and capturing additional market share in the contract mechanical and skilled trades labor support sector.  The Business Development Manager reports directly to the CEO and works closely with our Operations and Human Resources Teams.  This is a full-time permanent position based in Osoyoos, BC or working remotely.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Customer and industry engagement: Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key stakeholders, including mine operators, procurement teams, engineering firms, and contractors. A key part of this involves representing the company at industry events, trade shows, and conferences.
  • Technical collaboration: Work closely with client engineering, technical, and aftermarket teams to develop tailored solutions that meet complex customer needs. For larger projects, this includes managing the end-to-end sales process, from initial technical discussions to negotiating contracts.
  • Commercial insights and coordination: Analyze market trends, competitor activities, and customer feedback to inform contract labour positioning and pricing strategies. The BD manager is often responsible for preparing technical and commercial proposals, completing RFPs’ and presenting them to clients.
  • Attend industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events to promote Matrix labour services and establish contacts.
  • Pipeline and performance management: Use customer relationship management (CRM) tools to track BD activities, manage the pipeline, and provide accurate sales forecasts and reports to leadership.

Requirements

  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Mining Engineering, or a red seal trades designation is preferred.
  • Experience: 5 to 10+ years of experience in technical sales or business development within the mining or heavy industrial sectors, with a proven track record of meeting sales targets. Experience selling specific mining Labour teams, technology, capital equipment, or engineered solutions is highly valued.
  • Technical knowledge: A strong understanding of mining applications, processes, and mechanical equipment (e.g., excavation, grinding, conveyors, ventilation). The ability to interpret mechanical drawings may also be required.
  • Interpersonal skills: Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills to effectively interact with a diverse range of technical and non-technical clients.
  • Business acumen: The ability to develop value propositions, create business cases, and participate in contract negotiations.
  • Self-motivated: A resourceful and results-oriented mindset, capable of working independently and traveling frequently to mine sites, project sites, and customer offices.
