About the role

About The Role Join Shopify's IT Engineering team as an Application Administrator, where you'll be the expert behind the productivity tools that keep our global team of thousands connected and productive. You'll own the administration and optimization of enterprise-scale systems like Slack, Google Workspace, and other critical third-party applications that power how Shopifolk collaborate every day.

This role sits at the intersection of technical expertise and strategic thinking. You'll handle everything from complex system migrations and license optimization projects to day-to-day operational requests. One day you might be working with design leadership to rightsize Figma licensing across the company, the next you'll be building custom Slack automations that save the company hundreds of hours of manual work.

We need someone who can balance the immediate operational needs of keeping our tools running smoothly with the strategic vision of how these systems should evolve to support Shopify's growth. You should be comfortable diving deep into technical details one moment and presenting to leadership the next.

You'll be joining a team that values ownership, technical excellence, and the ability to get things done in an environment where change is constant. We're looking for someone who gets energized by solving complex problems and isn't afraid to challenge the status quo when they see a better way forward.

What You'll Do

  • Administer enterprise-scale productivity systems including Slack, Google Workspace, Figma, and Fresh Service Helpdesk, ensuring optimal performance and security for thousands of users
  • Drive strategic optimization projects like license rightsizing, system migrations, and workflow automations that deliver measurable business impact
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders including procurement, design, product, engineering, and finance teams to understand their needs and implement scalable solutions
  • Manage vendor relationships with tool providers, supporting procurement in negotiating renewals and ensuring we're maximizing value from our software investments
  • Help build custom integrations and automations working closely with engineering teams to create first-party solutions when third-party tools don't meet our needs
  • Respond to operational requests and tickets while maintaining high-quality service standards and identifying opportunities for process improvement
  • Evaluate new tools and AI features with a critical eye, separating genuine value from vendor marketing hype

What You'll Need

  • Expert-level experience administering Slack and Google Workspace at enterprise scale with thousands of users and power users
  • Extreme attention to detail and an obsession with the fine details of the end user experience. Shopify’s priority is for these tools to just work, and not generate unnecessary noise or confusing experiences.
  • Technical depth including experience building Slack apps/bots, writing SQL queries, and working with APIs
  • Strategic mindset with experience leading complex projects like system migrations, license optimization, or large-scale rollouts
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to say no diplomatically when needed and influence without authority
  • Experience interfacing with engineering teams and comfort discussing technical solutions and trade-offs
  • Proven ability to thrive in ambiguity and fast-paced environments where priorities shift quickly
  • Experience at scale - you understand the unique challenges that come with supporting productivity tools for thousands of users
  • Curiosity about AI and emerging technologies with a healthy skepticism about new features and vendor promises

Bonus Points For

  • Background in technology companies or high-growth environments
  • Experience with Fresh Service or similar ITSM platforms
  • History of building novel solutions rather than accepting "good enough" orthodox approaches

About Shopify Opportunity is not evenly distributed. Shopify puts independence within reach for anyone with a dream to start a business. We propel entrepreneurs and enterprises to scale the heights of their potential. Since 2006, we’ve grown to over 8,300 employees and generated over $1 trillion in sales for millions of merchants in 175 countries.

This is life-defining work that directly impacts people’s lives as much as it transforms your own. This is putting the power of the few in the hands of the many, is a future with more voices rather than fewer, and is creating more choices instead of an elite option.

About You Moving at our pace brings a lot of change, complexity, and ambiguity—and a little bit of chaos. Shopifolk thrive on that and are comfortable being uncomfortable. That means Shopify is not the right place for everyone.

Before you apply, consider if you can:

  • Care deeply about what you do and about making commerce better for everyone
  • Excel by seeking professional and personal hypergrowth
  • Keep up with an unrelenting pace (the week, not the quarter)
  • Be resilient and resourceful in face of ambiguity and thrive on (rather than endure) change
  • Bring critical thought and opinion
  • Use AI tools reflexively as part of your fundamental workflow
  • Embrace differences and disagreement to get shit done and move forward
  • Work digital-first for your daily work
