ProconSAFE is an autonomous safety division within the Procon Group of Companies, a successful Canadian mining contractor. ProconSAFE was created to help Procon become “Best in Class in Safety” and functions alongside Procon’s operations group, providing strategic safety services, personnel, and direction.

ProconSAFE is actively searching for a Trainer to support Procon SAFE’s Safety and Training department, operating on a remote underground mine located in Northwest British Columbia. This is a full-time site-based position working 3 weeks in/ 3 weeks out, camp accommodations are provided.

Project Details:

Based at our project in Northern B.C., this will be a 3 week on / 3 week off rotation opportunity.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Regional HSE Manager, the Trainer will perform duties as a member of the project Safety and Training department and collaborate with other departments of the project. The Trainer plays a key role by exercising good practices in planning, delivering, documenting and tracking required training and evaluations, as well as bringing expert advice to any training content development.

Responsibilities:

The Trainer is responsible and accountable for the following:

  • Strictly adhere to all legislated regulations, including the BC Mines Act, as well as company Health & Safety policies to ensure safe work practices and uphold Health & Safety as the top priority.
  • Comply with all site-specific and underground policies and procedures to maintain operational integrity and safety standards.
  • Identify training requirements, perform training needs analysis, monitor, and maintain training records for the underground workforce.
  • Develop and implement site specific training systems, procedures, standards and initiatives.
  • Conduct skill competency assessments.
  • Provide on the job training to new and experienced miners.
  • Routinely audit training systems for compliance to changing legislative requirements.
  • Manage the New Worker Mentoring Program.
  • Actively promote health and safety through continuous communications, relationship building, and leadership across the project.
  • Maintain training matrixes, corrective action tracking, safety/training statistics, and training records.
  • Maintain workplace safety and protect workers’ health, in compliance with company standards, best practice, and applicable regulations.
  • Assists with development of training aids such as manuals and handbooks.
  • Support the project management team in efforts to provide a safe and accident-free workplace.
  • Facilitate learning based on site requirements through a variety of delivery methods including classroom instruction, hands-on training, on-the-job coaching, and virtual or computer-based training.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • A minimum 5 years of experience as a Mine Trainer, preferably in an underground mining environment.
  • Professional certification is an asset.
  • Must have a good understanding and operating knowledge on underground mining equipment.
  • Ability to clearly present information through presentation.
  • Excellent working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite of software especially Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Highly developed presentation, written and oral skills.
  • Ability to develop effective professional relationships.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to be discrete and manage high level confidential information.
  • Ability to plan own work and demonstrate good time management skills.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic, reliable attendance, punctuality, and an unwavering commitment to safety. Must be willing to work a 3-weeks-on / 3-weeks-off rotational schedule.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse crews and adapt seamlessly to different team dynamics.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and takes initiative as a proactive contributor to high-performing teams.
  • Thrives in fast-paced environments while maintaining focus, efficiency, and safety standards.

If this position involves frequent air travel to and from the work site. Applicants must meet all legislated requirements for air travel to work at the remote site camp. You will be required to work both dayshift and nightshift as part of the rotational schedule 21 days on site, 21 days off site. For this safety sensitive position, you will be required to undergo a background check and be required to undergo a substance test and pre-employment testing.
