About the role

Job Description:

Position: Research Associate
Start Date: As soon as possible
End Date: March 31, 2023
Salary: Commensurate with experience

Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Principle Investigator, Dr. Costamagna, the successful applicant will:

  • Conduct independent research by providing statistical analysis and ecological interpretation for a large dataset of field data consisting of insect abundance, plant damage (defoliation), plant density, landscape scale variables.
  • Conduct data analyses to answer ecological and applied questions on flea beetle ecology and management, including landscape effects on flea beetle abundance and damage to canola and flea beetle damage thresholds in field experiments.
  • Produce a document detailing all the analyses performed, their interpretation and the statistical codes and outputs used to produce them.
  • Other related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must hold a PhD in entomology or ecology, with 2-3 years of postdoctoral experience working with large insect/plant datasets.

The successful candidate must have strong and proven experience analyzing large ecological datasets and have an excellent command of the following R packages: grid, reshape2, nlme, car, lmerTest, lme4, DHARMa, glmmTMB, MASS, MuMIn, lubridate, sciplot, plyr, ISOweek, tidyr, coefplot, glmmADMB, doBy, cAIC4, corrplot, lattice, and emmeans. To correctly analyze and interpret the results of the analysis, the candidate should also have field ecology experience, particularly working with flea beetles and their damage to canola in field studies.
