The Opportunity

Employment Type: Permanent

Employment Level: Intermediate

Location: Toronto, Ontario

Department: Medical Isotopes

Reports to: Section Manager, Isotopes Production and Projects

Hours per week: 40 hrs/week | Shift Work Position. Workers will be assigned 8 or 10 or 12 hour shifts as rotating shifts (days, afternoons, and/or nights). Weekend work will be required. Overtime may be required.

Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

  • Perform all duties in a safe manner and in compliance with Kinectrics policies and procedures.

  • Support the execution of processes, investigations, and technical studies for customers in one or more disciplines such as chemical, civil, mechanical, metallurgical, electrical/electronics, computer science, non-destructive evaluation, material science, environmental science, biology, etc.

  • Support and execute the setup and maintenance of equipment, processes, systems.

  • Support and occasionally supervise a team in the troubleshooting, service, calibration, repair and/or installation of equipment, processes, products, conduct of experiments, service equipment, quality control, and inventory tracking. Interpret and prepare specifications, technical drawings, or instructions.

  • Utilize advanced computer systems for data acquisition and manipulation; develop and write software programs as required to complete work.

  • Prepare routine and non-routine technical reports.

  • Support and execute the preparation of operational procedures, instructions, and specifications.

  • Occasionally supervise, train and co-ordinate the work of others including safety.

  • Supervise phases of major projects or smaller projects and may direct the work of others.

  • Respond to customer inquiries, maintain good customer relations, and solve problems.

  • Ensure customer satisfaction by following good quality and safety practices in all aspects of the work performed.

  • Perform other duties as required.

What You Need to Succeed

  • Typically requires completion of three-year community college in engineering/science technology program in a specific discipline or equivalent training and experience.

  • Minimum 8 years related experience or equivalent combined academic and practical experience.

  • Expertise in mechanical and/or electrical components, instrumentation, etc. to facilitate the execution of routine operations and tests.

  • Excellent hands-on experience in the areas of operations, mechanical and electrical assembly including PLC wiring, interface with computer applications, maintenance and/or troubleshoot of complex equipment and processes.

  • Experience in solving complex problems where solutions require considerable investigation to resolve and often require integration of a number of technical fields.

  • Excellent and demonstrated ability to exercise considerable judgment and resourcefulness in resolving technical problems.

  • Excellent and demonstrated ability to work effectively and interface with multiple team members.

  • Strong written (technical and non-technical) and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent knowledge of instrumentation and laboratory equipment control.

  • Proven ability in developing laboratory and equipment standard operating and safety procedures.

  • Proven ability to utilize computer software programs for data management. Experience in the use of Microsoft Office products for data analysis, charting and document preparation.

  • Strong written (technical and non-technical) and verbal communication skills.

  • Solid knowledge of Quality Assurance principles.

  • Willingness to work in a manufacturing/operations environment and must comply with all applicable safety protocols, procedures, standards, and Personal Protective Equipment requirements.

  • Demonstrate practice of excellent safety awareness and adherence to practices and procedures.

  • Familiarity with vacuum systems, ion sources, laser systems, and/or accelerator systems is an asset.

  • Proven experience successfully commissioning systems including troubleshooting faults, conducting root causes, and implementing fixes is a strong asset.

  • Ability to successfully obtain and maintain a valid nuclear site security clearance.

This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
