Why is this role important?

The Program Specialist supports stakeholder engagement, project coordination, and administrative activities related to the development and implementation of a pan-Canadian health data stewardship framework in support of CIHI’s transformation agenda. This role provides subject-matter support in data governance and stewardship and contributes to the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of tools and processes, including CIHI’s Health Data and Information Governance and Capability Framework. The Program Specialist prepares presentations, reports, and briefing materials and provides coordination and analytical support to enable the timely delivery of assigned initiatives.

What you'll do

1- Develop and maintain knowledge of current and emerging data governance and stewardship best practices, as well as federal, provincial, and territorial stakeholder priorities.

2- Contribute to foundational activities that support the development and advancement of a pan-Canadian health data stewardship framework.
3- Support the ongoing evolution of the Health Data and Information Governance and Capability Framework and associated tools through analysis, documentation, and engagement activities with internal and external stakeholders.
4- Coordinate operational and logistical aspects related to the development and implementation of pan-Canadian data stewardship initiatives. This includes organizing meetings, preparing documentation and content, tracking action items, and drafting meeting records.
5- Act as a resource to internal and external stakeholders by supporting coordination, alignment, and information-sharing activities related to data governance and information quality initiatives.
6- Research and synthesize information on health data stewardship concepts and practices.

7- Plan and conduct literature scans, document findings, and prepare summary materials to inform decision-making.
8- Draft and contribute to reports, briefing notes, presentations, and other documentation to support internal and external communications.
9- Coordinate operational and logistical aspects of assigned projects, including meeting facilitation, documentation development, follow-up activities, and obtaining required approvals.
10- Coordinate review, quality assurance, translation, publication, and dissemination processes for materials related to information quality, data governance, and health data ethics.
11- Build and maintain effective working relationships within CIHI to support coordination and alignment across initiatives; Contribute to the promotion of CIHI products and services through participation on committees, presentations, and stakeholder forums, as required.

What you'll bring to the table

  • Undergraduate degree in Health, Public Administration, Business Administration or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of related experience, including experience in health data governance, health information management, or working with health systems and/or health data.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with internal and external stakeholders and subject-matter experts to support project activities and deliverables.
  • Experience coordinating strategic projects, including elements of planning, facilitation, and execution.
  • Knowledge of data and information governance principles, data stewardship models, and best practices.
  • Conceptual understanding of health, health systems, and the use of health information for policy development, planning, management, and evaluation.
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, problem-solving, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize information into briefing notes, backgrounders, and presentations for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within interdisciplinary, matrixed environments while managing competing priorities and deadlines.
