The Opportunity
The Legislative and Court Services Department is comprised of three branches; Legislative Services (which includes Council Secretariat, Corporate Mail and Print Services, Vital Statistics and Access and Privacy Services), Court Services (which is responsible for the administration of justice within two court service areas in compliance with the Provincial Offences Act, the Memorandum of Understanding and Inter-municipal Service Agreements) and Enforcement Services which is responsible for administering and enforcing several municipal by-laws including but not limited to regulations related to the parking of vehicles, pet controls, property maintenance, business licensing, and sign placement).
The Courtroom Support Clerk is responsible to provide court support and administration services in the Provincial Offences Court in accordance with provincial legislation, directives and operational guidelines. This position plays an integral role both in and outside of the courtroom to ensure the integrity of the Ontario Court of Justice system is maintained. Travel to satellite court locations, City operated facilities and other locations is required.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)
- One (1) year College Certificate in legal administration, court support or a related discipline

Experience
- Two (2) years of cumulative part-time experience or one (1) year of full-time experience performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities
Knowledge/Skill/Ability
- General knowledge of the following legislation, regulations, or requirements: Highway Traffic Act, Provincial Offences Act, Courts of Justice Act and the Ontario Evidence Act
- Working knowledge of the following principles and standards: general office and/or courtroom equipment (computers, printer, various software applications, phone, adding machines, photocopier/scanner etc.)
- Demonstrated Ability to:
- keep personal or situational information confidential
- make announcements and statements fully and clearly in an audible voice in a public forum
- multi-task and problem solve, including strong spelling skills and a solid understanding of the English Canadian grammar/language rules
- work effectively in a team environment and individually at remote sites without direct supervision
- Advanced skills include: Customer Service; Interpersonal; Organizational; Verbal Communication; Written Communication
- Intermediate computer literacy using the following systems and software: Accurate keyboarding skills of at least 50 words per minute; Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook etc.)

Please note that this is a requirement of the position for any new employees to the City of Barrie in accordance with the Police Record Check Policy. Existing employees who have met this criteria will be exempt from this requirement.
Other Important Information
Location: Legislative and Court Services, 45 Cedar Pointe Drive, Barrie, ON
Hours: The normal hours of work are 35 hours per week in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
Wage: This position is within the CUPE Local 2380 Bargaining Unit with the following pay level and 2025 pay range:
- Pay Level: Level 4
- Yearly Salary: $53,853.80 to $64,482.60
- Hourly Pay Rate: $29.59 to $35.43
