Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 315-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.

The Clinical Manager of the Ontario Structured Psychotherapy Program B is currently seeking temporary full-time Intake Screeners. The purpose of the position is to ensure all relevant information is received for all incoming requests for service that are received in the Central Intake Department.

Please Note: This position offers a hybrid work environment consisting of in-office and remote work. Office location is Jones Road, Midland, ON.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Receive all incoming referrals/requests for service. Date/time stamp all new referrals and enter new referral into Caredove.
  • Review referral for completeness (i.e. ensure all required data elements are filled in); contact referral sources for missing data elements. Provide written communication about the receipt of a referral, possible wait times, and next steps.
  • Ensure basic eligibility using OSP eligibility criteria. Identify where basic eligibility is not met and collaborate with the Clinical Access Coordinators in order to determine next steps.
  • Identify level of priority for the request and next steps (i.e. request for more information; decline letter).
  • Flag for the Clinical Access Coordinator key/essential data elements; identify high risk situations and provide early intervention for same.
  • Support/augment the role of the Clinical Access Coordinator (i.e. making follow up calls; obtaining information as required).
  • Assist in the evaluation of key indicators (i.e. identify trends of wait times; declined referrals; monitoring key data elements including ALC and Repatriation data).

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered Practical Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required for the role.

  • Knowledge of Mental health practices in order to understand complex situations presented and an ability to prioritize the requests based on clinical judgment and impressions

  • Up-to-date psychiatric diagnosis and disorders and theories of general and mental health theory to provide clinical impressions and/or advisory services through the development, implementation and modification of referral/triage services.

  • Hospital policies and procedures and sections of relevant legislation – e.g. Mental Health Act, Long Term Care Act, Health Care Consent Act, Homes for Special Care Act, Regulated Health Professions Act, Capacity & Consent, Personal Health Information Protection Act, etc.to ensure compliance and consistency, ensure that legislated patient entitlements such as consent to treatment are observed with which to advocate on patient’s behalf with individuals/agencies, and to ensure accepted nursing standards of practice.

  • Techniques of data identification and data entry in order to assist with research and program evaluation projects to populate the Waypoint Wait Times Tool

  • Results oriented work ethic to work independently and undertake tasks needed to accomplish work objectives and deliver quality, consistent and timely results

  • Demonstrated leadership, conflict resolution, interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Proven written and verbal communication skills

  • Proven ability to adapt readily to change and reflects an optimistic and positive attitude

  • Models and promotes core ethical practice, Waypoint Values (Caring, Respect, Accountability, Innovation)

  • Preference for proficiency in French/English language skills.
