Description The Division of General Internal Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and the Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, invite applications for the position of Division Head and Academic General Internist. The Division is vibrant and productive, with strong commitments to clinical excellence, education, research, and quality improvement.Applicants must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto and will fulfill the academic position description of a Clinician Teacher, Clinician Educator, Clinician Quality Innovator, Clinician Investigator, or Clinician Scientist. Assistant Professors with demonstrated leadership experience relevant to the role may also be considered. The expected start date is July 1, 2026, or a mutually agreed-upon date.
The position will include clinical care and administrative responsibilities, along with research, teaching, and/or quality improvement activities aligned with the candidate’s academic focus. The ideal candidate will be an accomplished academic leader and mentor with demonstrated excellence in clinical care and a strong record of achievement in education and/or research, clinical innovation, implementation, and change management.
The Division Head will provide strategic, clinical, administrative, and academic leadership across the full scope of the Division’s academic and clinical activities. Responsibilities include advancing excellence in undergraduate, postgraduate, and fellowship education, including the continued implementation of competency-based medical education; supporting research and innovation; strengthening quality improvement initiatives; and fostering an inclusive and collegial academic environment. The Division Head will oversee faculty recruitment, mentorship, and career development, while maintaining an active clinical and academic practice within the Division.
Applicants must hold an MD degree, be certified or eligible for certification in Internal Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and be eligible for licensure in Ontario.
Estimated compensation will be in the range of $275,000–375,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.
