The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Projects Manager – Sustaining Capital at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday, straight days shift with compressed work schedule option.

Position Projects Manager Location Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.
Summary Reporting to the Sustaining Capital Projects Manager, the Project Manager is responsible for delivering various site improvement (Sustaining Capital) projects from conception to handover to operations. This role will be site based in a blended setting between planning work in the office to field supervision during construction. The successful candidate will be a key member of the Projects team working with Operations, Maintenance, and external consultants and contractors to take an idea through its stages of investigation, scoping, evaluation, engineering, construction, commissioning and handover.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage a small portfolio of Sustaining Capital Projects by leading a team of multi-disciplined Project Coordinators , Field Engineers , Consultants, and Contractors for various sustaining capital projects,
- Generate Project documentation such as Charters, Scopes of Work, Execution plans, Cost Estimates, and AFEs,
- Coordinate with the Project Controls team to keep track of project costs,
- Coordinate with the procurement team with sourcing materials,
- Communicate with and support external Engineering,
- Manage the commissioning of equipment and handover to operations,
- Develops and keeps track of project costs (with Project Controls team) and schedules,
- Ensures projects are executed in compliance with site Safety and Environmental procedures,
- Estimate Development – understanding of application of contingencies, methodologies,
- Working with Project Champions to quantify project financial benefits,
- Performs any other responsibilities related to the Project Manager position as required or as assigned by the department head .
Education & Experience
- Bachelors in an Engineering degree, Technologist, or Certified Trade. PMP Certification is an asset,
- Working in an industrial project setting with people from diverse backgrounds, qualifications, and professions. Experience with industrial brownfield and greenfield projects. Proven track record of successfully leading multidisciplinary project teams. Experience with contractor management and contract administration,
- Demonstrated understanding of Project Delivery through its stages of engineering, construction, commissioning, operational readiness, and handover .
Required Skills
- Demonstrated technical knowledge of one or two disciplines (ie: Civil, Structural, Concrete, Mechanical, Electrical etc.) in an engineering or construction environment,
- Must have excellent leadership, organizational and communication skills ,
- The ability to digest technical information and communicate it effectively (verbal and written) to non-technical people is an asset,
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities,
- Negotiation and conflict resolution skills,
- Adaptability and resilience in a dynamic environment,
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, Office 365, Emails, Cloud (Google Drive etc.),
- Working knowledge of Gmail, Google Docs and SAP is an asset,
- Experience in using Microsoft Projects or Primavera is an asset,
- Knowledge of AACE Estimating guidelines is an asset,
- Ability to lead and supervise Contractors with a primary focus on safety,
- Details and results-oriented with the ability to adapt to changing priorities, multi-task, and adhere to deadlines,
- Willingness to work a flexible shift when required. During shutdown tie-ins, to meet deadlines or address urgent matters,
- Ability to hike moderately steep inclines to scope out projects, supervise or inspect work,
- Possess a valid Class 5/7N driver’s license and have access to personal transportation,
- Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.
Working Conditions
- This role offers a balance between working in an office and field supervision,
- The role is site based,
- Requires walking on uneven terrain, climbing stairs/ladders, and working in various weather conditions,
- Requires the ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods,
- Exposure to typical mine site conditions, including dust, noise, heavy machinery, and varying temperatures. Adherence to strict safety protocols is paramount,
- This role is in a fast-paced environment that may require the Project Manager – Sustaining Capital to adapt to changing priorities and schedules,
- This role will be a key part of assisting the Projects group to deliver various improvement projects around the mine site .
Salary Range $140K - $150K / annum
