About Mount Milligan Mine
Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant.
Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region.
Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
About the Opportunity
The on-site Nurse is the medical lead for the Mount Milligan Mine site and acts in a “physician extender” role. The on-site nurse will work in partnership with the Primary Care Paramedics on-site. The position is directly linked to a BC-licensed on-call physician group and can collaborate with the physician or medical oversite to develop an extensive initial patient care plan. The position oversees all medical situations occurring on-site, maintains records of injuries, accidents and treatments and communicates same to management.
Key Responsibilities:

In partnership with the Primary Care Paramedic: Sets up and maintains the medical treatment facility on site to ensure it is effective and well organized; including purchasing and monitoring supplies.

Dispenses prescription and non-prescription drugs under direction from a physician when necessary.
-
Maintains health records for all employees who are working on site particularly those with chronic medical conditions who may need attention.
-
Document the nursing process in care management through assessment, diagnosis, and treatment consistent with appropriate standards of practice.
-
Diagnoses and treats health issues; works together with remote physician when necessary to determine further diagnoses and treatment necessary.

Co-ordinate client health screening and surveillance programs and services: monitor work environment to protect the health and safety of workers.

Identify the need for case management intervention and be able to conduct a thorough and objective assessment of the client’s status and case management needs.

Implement occupational and environmental health and safety training and education.

Work in partnership with the Industrial Hygiene professional to identify, reduce and eliminate long term occupational exposures.

Participates in emergency response drills.

Maintains diagnostic equipment in the medical facility to be in good working order.

Works together with Environmental and Safety teams to ensure knowledge of occupational hazards.

Works closely with Safety and human resources for occupational injuries, illness, and disability management.

Liaise with off-site health care providers, on-site team to ensure appropriate RTW program is in place for both Occ and Non Occ injuries.

Deliver and manage disease prevention programs.
-
Deliver and manage respiratory surveillance program and exposure programs.
-
Performs any other responsibilities related to the RN role as required or as assigned by the department head.
About You
- Special training in CPR; Cardiac arrest; ACLS; Triage preferred.
- University Degree in Nursing (RN)
- 5 years’ experience in a similar role working in an industrial remote area.
- Experience dealing with a wide variety of illness and injury.
- Understanding of addictions and mental health issues.
- Understanding of WCB compliance and reporting.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with all levels of employees.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.
Working Conditions
- Camp-based role working 12-hour days on a 7 day on/7 day off or 14 day on/14 day off rotation, with accommodation provided during rotation.
- Exposure to indoor/outdoor environments, heavy equipment, noise, and moving parts.
- PPE always required.
- Safety-sensitive environment with zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy.
- Bus transportation provided from regional locations.
