Why Join CBC/Radio-Canada
As part of a strategic initiative to modernize our digital ecosystem, we’re looking for a passionate back-end developer to design and integrate agentic AI-powered features that offer personalized experiences to our users.
Working closely with product managers, the architect and the technical manager, you’ll ensure the smooth development of the product within your area of expertise. You’ll also co-ordinate the technical efforts required to deliver new features, while adhering to the norms, standards and practices set by the development management team, such as creating automated tests and documentation.
When you work for CBC/Radio-Canada, you’re not only joining the undisputed leader in expressing Canadian culture — you’re also participating in its digital revolution. Here, you’ll find a stimulating, state-of-the-art and team-focused work environment.
There is an opportunity for this to be a full-time teleworking position. Work arrangements will be discussed with hiring managers per departmental guidelines.
Your Role
We’re seeking a talented back-end developer with expertise in big data and machine learning to join our dynamic team. You’ll be responsible for designing, developing and industrializing data pipelines, as well as for deploying AI models into production.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain applications and APIs for managing and processing large-scale data.
- Work with the Data and Machine Learning teams to industrialize AI models.
- Assist Machine Learning developers in designing and implementing AI pipelines and applications.
- Integrate AI models into production on cloud infrastructure (Azure, Databricks).
- Ensure the performance, scalability and security of deployed solutions.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams (data engineers, data scientists, machine learning engineers).
- Draft technical documents and performance reports for stakeholders.
- Provide practical technical expertise, advice and support to the Business Intelligence team for their advanced modelling needs.
- Identify gaps in data collection and work with the relevant teams to gather that information.
- Program the extraction, standardization and transformation of our reliable data sources, and confirm the integrity of those sources.
- Develop and evolve production models following an iterative approach.
- Help evolve our current prediction architecture based partially on Microsoft Azure ML and Databricks.
- Synthesize and explain technological innovations so they are understandable to non-experts and accessible across the Corporation.
Required Skills
- Graduate degree in a relevant field (engineering, computer science, etc.) or equivalent professional experience.
- Proficiency in developing with Python, C# and TypeScript.
- Significant experience in data engineering (big data) and large-scale data processing pipelines.
- Knowledge of data pre-processing techniques and ML algorithms.
- Experience working with Agile (Scrum/Kanban) processes.
- Experience with database management systems (SQL, NoSQL).
- Comfort analyzing complex data from various sources.
- Passion for empirical research using data to answer challenging questions.
- Excellent spoken and written French; English an asset (as you will be required to work with bilingual teams) and willingness to develop your language skills desirable.
Nice to Have
- Microsoft Azure certification.
- Expertise in cloud tools and services, especially Azure ML and Databricks.
- Experience with other Cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud).
- Experience with continuous integration / continuous delivery (CI/CD) tools.
- Experience with natural language processing (NLP) or computer vision.
Perks You Can Look Forward To
- Hybrid work environment with flexible work schedules, allowing you to prioritize yourself, your family and your work.
- Competitive benefits and compensation.
- Opportunities to work with cutting-edge technology.
- Opportunities for continued learning and professional development.
- Opportunities to become a member of our Employee Resource Groups.
- Pair programming and mentorship opportunities, where you can learn from the best in the industry and help coach new talent.
- A creative and dynamic work environment, where your ideas and contributions can be heard, valued and respected.
- An environment that favours experimentation and an iterative approach in order to achieve the highest form of technical innovation.
Please note this is a 12-month contract position, renewable annually. This regular position is not a consulting assignment but a long-term opportunity with attractive CBC/Radio-Canada employee benefits.
Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
