This role is located in Iroquois, On, just 1 hour South of Ottawa. Automation Specialist (SMT)

We’re looking for an Automation Specialist with strong manufacturing technology experience to support and improve our industrial automation, computerised systems, and electronic manufacturing processes. This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced production environment ideal for someone who enjoys and has direct experience, combining engineering, automation, and real shop-floor problem solving related to programming automated (SMT) equipment.

Who you Report to: Manager, Manufacturing Engineering Support

What You’ll Do:

  • Program and troubleshoot computerised machines, PLCs, and automated equipment
  • Operate automated assembly equipment and SMT systems
  • Develop applications to support manufacturing and automation processes
  • Support process improvement initiatives and technical problem-solving

Responsibilities & Duties Technical & Engineering Support

  • Create manufacturing instructions and user manuals
  • Assist in preparing engineering designs, drawings, and specifications
  • Program and troubleshoot computerised machines, PLCs, and automated equipment
  • Conduct mechanical tests and analyses on machines, components, and materials
  • Perform CAD work and interpret engineering drawings
  • Assist with maintenance programming for equipment operations
  • Test machines, equipment, and automated systems

Automation & Programming

  • Input and modify programming data on computerized machines
  • Repair, adjust, and reprogram equipment using diagnostic and programming tools
  • Operate or tend automated assembly systems
  • Develop computer applications to support machine automation and manufacturing processes

Manufacturing Technology

  • Use shop equipment and specialised diagnostic tools
  • Contribute to process improvements and Surface-Mount Technology (SMT) processes
  • Support machinery, component development, and continuous improvement initiatives

Technical Skills & Software Knowledge Required:

  • Mastercam CAD/CAM
  • 3D graphics software
  • AutoCAD
  • SolidWorks
  • PLC knowledge
  • TCP/IP
  • MS Office Suite: Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project, Word

Equipment & Machinery Experience

  • Automated and robotic systems
  • computerised equipment
  • SMT-related systems

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 3–5 years in automation, manufacturing, or related technical fields
  • Experience with: Mastercam, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, PLCs, CNC, TCP/IP
  • Strong MS Office skills (Excel, Outlook, Project, etc.)
  • Ability to work on-site; own transportation required (no public transit)
  • Strong communication, organisation, and teamwork skills
