The Role
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Metering Technician Co-op Student for a 4-month or 8-month term starting in January. Reporting to the Manager, Metering & Technical Services, this position will support the team with the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of metering systems and associated distribution equipment. This position provides an opportunity to gain practical experience, learn from skilled professionals, and contribute to the success of the department and the organization.
What You Will Do
- Assist Metering Technicians by serving as a helper or second person during various tasks and operations
- Aid in the weekly download of meter data and assist with organizing the meter shop, including scrapping meters as needed
- Track, monitor, and update metering inventory to ensure accurate and up-to-date records
- Upload new materials, such as Current Transformers (CTs), Potential Transformers (PTs), and meters into the Customer Information System (CIS)
- Package, ship, deliver, and pick up meters while processing all relevant paperwork efficiently
- Generate and print metering service orders to facilitate smooth operations
- Process and file meter inspection certificates, updating CIS with current seal information
- Enter Record of Installation data into the CIS to maintain accurate system records
- All other duties as assigned
What We Are Looking For
- Enrolled in a 3-year college-level Technologist program with good academic standing
- Valid G Class Ontario driver’s licence with a clean abstract
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification is an asset
- Electrical Safety Awareness training is an asset
What You’ll Need to Be Successful
- Strong interest in the electrical discipline, including underground distribution systems
- Knowledge of electrical distribution systems, industry standards, and best practices
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, analytical, and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including reading comprehension and mathematical abilities
- Proficiency with MS Office and the ability to learn new software and systems
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to interact positively with employees, customers, and the public
- Physical fitness to safely perform work, including climbing, working at heights, working in confined spaces, and outdoors in all weather conditions
- Reliable, energetic, and motivated with a proven safety and attendance record
