Location

This position is required to work in person at various locations throughout Burlington. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands.

Position Overview

The City of Burlington is accepting applications for program staff to work Summer Camps 2026 for the following programs:

  • SNAP Junior (4-5yrs)
  • SNAP (6-9yrs)
  • SNAP and Splash (6-9yrs)
  • Multi-Sport (8-12yrs)
  • Park Play(8-12yrs)
  • Youth Adventures (10-14yrs)
  • Rec Connections (13-18yrs)
  • Leader In Training (11-16yrs)

The above programs will run weekly from Mon-Fri. Not all programs will run for the 10 weeks of summer (June 29- September 4, 2026).

Successful applicants will be expected to be present for all mandatory trainings that will take place between May and June of 2026.

Senior Staff Training will be taking place on May 22 and May 23.

All Staff training will be taking place June 13, June 14 and June 20

Community programs in the above areas are provided at various locations throughout Burlington. Program staff report to the Coordinator, Recreation Services. Hours of work will vary with position title and will vary dependent on program need but are typically 7.5 hours per camp day and up to 40 hours per week, 2-3 hours per extended care shift and/or lunch coverage support, and up to 7 hours for trip support.

Responsibilities

Program Leader, RCC - Responsible for planning and implementing creative and varied programs to meet the needs and interests of all participants. Successful applicants will be responsible for the safety and supervision of participants both on and offsite and are expected to implement and participate in activities. All staff must always adhere to all health and safety regulations. As an inclusive program for all abilities, all staff must be prepared to support all participants, including individuals with disabilities.

Senior Camp Leader, RCC- In addition to all program leader responsibilities. Senior Camp Leaders, RCC will assist with all aspects of camp while providing and coordinating a high-quality program. Senior Camp Leaders will take leadership of the site, helping to mentor and lead staff on-site. The Senior Camp Leader has added responsibilities to oversee the administrative duties of the camp site, often working with multiple groups on site and coordinating the efforts of all staff at that location. As an inclusive program for all abilities, all staff must be prepared to support all participants, including individuals with disabilities. Senior Camp Leaders receive additional training to better support our inclusion participants. Coaching and mentoring program leaders in relation to behaviour management strategies and program modifications will be required.

Specialized Program Instructor, RCC- In addition to all program leader responsibilities. Specialized Program Instructors, RCC will take lead in conflict resolution and supporting participants with behavioural needs. Assisting with personal care requirements or participants in program with physical demands of hygiene, toileting, feeding, lifting, positioning, and transferring children and equipment. Engaging with staff on conflict resolution practices and coaching through behaviour management principles. Coaching and mentoring program leaders in relation to behaviour management strategies and program modifications will be required.

Assistant Programmer, RCC - Monitor the overall program plan for all sites. Deliver, review, and monitor programs. Train and provide task supervision to staff, volunteers, and placement students. Work with onsite staff regarding the placement and evaluation of volunteers and Leaders-In-Training. Respond to public, program provider, and staff inquiries. Handle situations that have been escalated from the Senior Leader. Resolve participant behavior and conduct issues. Notify supervisor of all accidents or incidents. Contact participant’s emergency contacts if EMS is called. Liaise with program providers and partners to ensure day-to-day needs are addressed. Ensure that all materials and supplies are ordered and organized for the start of programs. Access to a vehicle is required for this role.

Requirements

You have the following qualifications or are in the process of obtaining, at your own expense:

  • Standard First Aid and CPR level C certification
  • Behavior Management Systems Training (available through the City of Burlington)
  • HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development

Police Check Requirement

This position requires the successful candidate to provide a clear criminal record check with a vulnerable sector check at their own expense.

Hourly Range

The following positions and hourly rates will be used for Summer Camps 2026 programs:

Program Leader RCC – $23.31-29.14/hour (Band C)

  • Program Leader – Mon-Fri, (up to 37.5 hours/week)
  • Program Leader (Flex) – will be on-call and have the option pick-up shifts on an “as needed basis”

Senior Camp Leader RCC – $26.31-32.89 /hour (Band D)

  • Mon-Fri, (up to 37.5 hours/week), weekly meetings (up to 39.5 hours/week)

Specialized Program Instructors RCC - $26.31-32.89/hour (Band D)

  • Mon-Fri, (up to 37.5 hours/week) + weekly meetings (up to 39.5 hours/week)

Assistant Programmer RCC - $26.31-32.89/hour (Band D)

  • Position includes pre and post-camp hours in May, June, and September
  • Can work up to 40 hours/week
