Job Details

Description Heavy Duty Mechanic Standard Bus Contracting is currently seeking an experienced Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our maintenance team in Whitehorse, Yukon. Working in accordance with Occupational Health & Safety regulations and company policies, you will be responsible for ensuring the utilization of shop facilities, equipment and maintenance programs are effective while also focusing on efficiency and safety of buses serviced.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, examine and investigate to determine causes of defective operation of vehicle components with the use of computer diagnostic equipment
  • Service and repair vehicles in the shop or on-road in the event of a breakdown
  • Maintain, adjust, and/or repair all bus systems, components, and parts to ensure the operational fitness of vehicles
  • Operate buses to diagnose component failure or move buses when required
  • Perform electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical maintenance
  • Anticipate and troubleshoot breakdowns, list parts required and process orders
  • Ensure accuracy of documentation for all records of service, repair, and other work
  • Communicate with operations and supervisory staff on availability of equipment
  • Uphold compliance with all company policies and procedures: safety standards, operations, maintenance, training, cleanliness standards, etc.

Knowledge And Skills Required

  • Licensed Heavy Duty Mechanic, Red Seal preferred
  • 2 – 5 years of related work experience
  • School bus and diesel repair experience considered an asset
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must be willing to complete Yukon territorial licensing exam required to perform safety inspections (SAFTIs)
  • Mechanical aptitude, problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong time management and well-developed communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Computer proficiency
  • Own hand tools
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
