(Assistant/Associate/Full) Lecturer / Anatomy Demonstrator

This position has an initial appointment from August 24, 2026 to April 30, 2027.
Location - This role is in-person at Northwestern Polytechnic in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
The Division of Anatomy in the Department of Surgery at the University of Alberta invites applications for a part-time ATS Lecturer/Anatomy Demonstrator who will complement and extend our existing strengths in the teaching of Anatomy curriculum to support the Northern Alberta Medical Program expansion in Grande Prairie, AB.
The Division of Anatomy is primarily a teaching division with responsibilities for teaching human anatomy to undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students within the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry, Rehabilitation Medicine, Physical Education and Recreation, Nursing, and to undergraduate students in Pharmacy, Dental Hygiene and Science. We are dedicated to innovation and excellence in the teaching of anatomy and to the advancement of knowledge through basic and applied research in clinical anatomy, the development of new educational methods and educational technology.
The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is one of the world’s top academic health science centres. With 21 departments, multiple research institutes and centres, and a focus on excellence in education, research, and clinical care, the faculty trains outstanding medical and dental professionals and drives global health innovation in collaboration with partners across sectors.

Participates in the Gross Anatomy Laboratory Sessions in Grande Prairie under the supervision of the Division of Anatomy (DoA) Director. Works with faculty on-site in Grande Prairie and the on-site Lab Technician to support student learning.

Provides direction to NAMP medical students during the Gross Anatomy dissections as part of their scheduled learning and may be asked to support with student learning outside of scheduled time.

Alongside DoA faculty will be involved with the preparation of prosected human cadaveric specimens to facilitate NAMP human anatomy teaching and meet learning objectives as outlined by the Undergraduate Medical Education office.

Assists DoA faculty in the creation of the scheduled Practical Block Exam for the NAMP students.

Responsible for practical exam set-up with remedial/deferred exam provision.

Provides coverage for teaching where required

Leads instructional activities during scheduled laboratory sessions in the event that other DoA faculty are unavailable

MD or MSc in a relevant health sciences discipline, PhD considered an asset

Human cadaveric dissection experience required

Previous experience teaching to a large class and small groups, including one-on-one teaching

Experience and knowledge using tools related to dissection, including, but not limited to, scalpels, scissors, saws, both powered and hand, hammer and chisel

Experience in formative and summative assessment formulation

Clinical experience or experience in applied anatomy is an asset

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a thorough understanding of medical terminology required
