About the role
We are seeking a Product Developer, Hockey for our client, who has been at the heart of Canada’s game for decades. This Product Development team tests the sticks, gloves, and gear that players of every level depend on. This consultant role is for a hands-on, technically minded Product Developer to join a passionate team and ensure the equipment performs at the highest level. If you’re looking for a chance to combine your engineering know-how, product testing expertise, and love of hockey —this is it.
What You’ll Do No two days look the same, but you’ll play a key role in ensuring their gear is ready for the toughest shifts in the game:
- Field Testing (core focus): Coordinate athlete testing (sticks and other gear). Distribute products, track usage, collect feedback, and manage fit testing events with teams and players.
- Lab Testing: Develop test plans, coordinate with laboratories and vendors, review results, and translate findings into actionable insights.
- Reporting & Analytics: Own the weekly in-season field testing report. Use Power BI to maintain/debug dashboards and clean up athlete/trainer data.
- Materials Testing: Validate new material selections, confirm suitability, and organize results for the development team.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with engineering, QA, packaging, merchandising, brand, and international teams to bring products to life.
- Process Forward: Challenge the status quo and help the team adopt new ways of testing and working.
What We’re Looking For This isn’t a polished corporate environment—it’s fast, direct, collaborative, and hockey-obsessed. We need someone who thrives in a high-energy setting, can manage multiple moving parts, and is as comfortable in a locker room as in a lab.
Must-Haves
- Undergraduate degree in engineering (mechanical, industrial, manufacturing, or related).
- 2–5 years’ experience in product development, quality, or consumer goods (sporting goods preferred).
- Working knowledge of hockey—you know the game, the gear, and the environment (locker rooms, trainers, athletes).
- Baseline Power BI skills (maintaining/debugging reports).
- Strong communicator who can adapt to athletes, trainers, and cross-functional teams.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to self-prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with composites (hockey, golf, cycling) or sports engineering.
- Familiarity with SolidWorks or Adobe Creative Suite.
- Prior experience with athlete testing programs or sporting goods product development.
This Role Isn’t For You If
- You have no hockey knowledge.
- You prefer highly structured, corporate-style environments.
- You struggle to manage shifting priorities or direct communication styles.
Why Apply?
- Work on products used by players from youth leagues to the pros.
- Be part of a small, tight-knit team where your work directly impacts what hits the ice.
- Collaborate with athletes, trainers, and cross-functional experts daily.
- Travel to rinks and fit testing sessions (local, reimbursed).
- Gain exposure to the full lifecycle of sporting goods development.
Ready to combine your technical expertise with your passion for the game? Apply today and help shape the next generation of hockey gear.
