**CHILDCARE INCLUSION LEAD **

Join our team as a Childcare Inclusion Lead , where you will help create supportive, inclusive environments for children with diverse needs in our Before and After School Care programs. **
** **Job Summary **

The Childcare Inclusion Lead**** plays an important hands‑on role in supporting children with higher needs in our Before and After School Care (BASC) programs. Working with guidance from the Childcare Manager, this position helps ensure kids receive consistent, responsive support and that staff feel confident in the strategies they’re using. The role works closely with families, the Nanaimo Child Development Centre (CDC), Supported Child Development (SCD), the district Inclusion Support Team, and childcare staff to make sure each child’s care is well‑coordinated and truly responsive to their needs.

**Key responsibilities **

  • Provide direct, on-floor support for assigned children and their Childcare Education Assistants (CEAs) in the BASC program.
  • Provide coaching and skill development for 1:1 staff in the implementation of intensive, specialized supports for students.
  • Create materials such as, but not limited to, visual supports and activity bins as directed.
  • Develop, implement, and adjust individual inclusion strategies based on the needs of each child.
  • Write and maintain individual care plans in collaboration with on-floor staff, SCD, CDC, and families.
  • Maintain consistent relationships with identified children and families to support continuity of care.
  • Support safety planning, regulation strategies, and transitions within BASC programs.
  • Liaise with district Inclusion Support Teams, SCD, and the CDC.
  • Act as a liaison between external support services, childcare management, and on-floor staff.
  • Provide scheduled, short-term continuity coverage for assigned 1:1 CEAs during brief absences, as coordinated through the Childcare Management Team.
  • May, on occasion, be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

Assignment: Monday - Friday, 11:30 - 5:30

Wage: $33.18 per/hr. complimented by a competitive benefit package and municipal pension plan

**Education and Experience **

The successful candidate will bring the following:

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of the 20-hour online Responsible Adult Course or equivalent in training as required by Child Care Licensing Regulations.
  • Advanced training in the provision of support for students with complex neurological differences, including children with autism spectrum disorders or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • One year of related experience working with children or youth.
  • One year of related experience working with children with complex neurological differences.

Additional skills and attributes:

  • Strong understanding of inclusion, safety planning, and continuity of care practices.
  • Ability to collaborate with families, staff, and external support agencies.
  • Valid First Aid certification, as required by Child Care Licensing Regulations.
  • Exhibit strong verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work proactively and in a self-directed manner to foster an atmosphere of trust.
  • Proficient in basic digital literacy and internet safety.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information seen or heard.
  • Physical capability to perform the job duties.
